- Card #301 is actually from the 1995 Upper Deck set. UD did not have the license for Dale Earnhardt in 1995, and when he signed with them for 1996, the extra card from the first UD NASCAR set was made and issued into Road to the Cup. Similarly, the #DE1 card is an "Upper Deck Welcomes Dale Earnhardt" card in similar style to the 1996 Upper Deck Virtual Velocity insert.
- Budweiser and Skoal sponsorships were removed from the cards due to licensing agreements.
