This was the first pack of cards that I purchased. I still have the cards from the many packs that I opened. Will always be one of my favorite sets.

Set is really great now you see the selections of rookies is out of sight but the main problem with the set is that it's hard to read the numbers don't you think?

My first pack of cards were the topps 1986, pulled a Walter Payton, and I was hooked. Been collecting ever since

I recall when I was around 9 or 10 I used to put ball cards on the forks of my bike to make it sound like a motor after collecting for a while I realized that if I had just kept some of those cards I could have bought a new car with the money I could have made off the cards. LOL

I must have been around 9-years old at the time. I was at the grocery store with my mom, in the checkout line, when I spotted Joe Montana. "Look, mom. That's Joe Montana.", I said and I went over to inspect further. While it didn't mean much to me at the time, what I held in my hands was a rack pack of 1986 Topps football cards. "Do you want me to buy that for you?", my mom asked. Thanks, mom. I remember there were two packs hanging there. After inspecting the other pack briefly (I don't remember who was on the front, but I have a hazy recollection that maybe it was a Chicago Bear), I went with the pack with Joe Montana on the front. Having taken the rite-of-passage that is bestowed upon boys at that age, I had gotten interested in football the previous year and Joe Montana was my favorite player. Thanks, dad.

I still have those cards. The dog-eared corners and creases telling the rest of the story (good thing I didn't pull a Jerry Rice). I wouldn't start collecting cards in earnest until several years later, but those 1986 Topps football cards were the first ones I ever had.
