Lee Mazzilli's pinch homer tied the All Star Game at 6-6 when he hit a deep fly ball down the left field line off Jim Kern of the Texas Rangers leading off the top of the 8th inning. In the next inning, Lee came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs, with the New York Yankees pitcher Ron Guidry on the mound, Lee worked a walk, getting credit for his second RBI of the game and putting the National League up 7-6. They would go on to win the game by that same score. This was Lee's only All Star appearance.
