  • This set was originally released in 3 major groupings or types:
    *Type A consists of 9 players from 8 different teams plus 4 Brooklyn players for a total of 76 cards.
    *Type B consists of 14 St. Louis players in different poses than in Type A.
    *Type C consists of 53 additional cards, which vary from Type A/B according to pose, team change, spelling, etc
  • Produced in 1887 by D. Buchner & Company of New York. Issued with Gold Coin brand chewing tobacco. Player name, position and team printed on front. Images are generic drawings not related to player. Set also includes non-baseball player subjects.

This set consists of 117 baseball players, with some of them being featured in 2-3 different poses for a total of 143 cards in this set. Players are from 14 different teams from 3 different leagues:

--Detroit Wolverines (1881-1888),
--Philadelphia Quakers (1883-Present Phillies),
--Chicago White Stockings (1876-Present Cubs),
--New York Giants (1882-Present Giants)
--Boston Beaneaters (1876-Present Braves),
--Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1882-Present Pirates),
--Washington Nationals (1886-1889),
--Indianapolis Hoosiers (1887-1889).'

--St. Louis Browns (1882-Present Cardinals),
