Year: 1988

Set: Pacific Legends I (Rate)

Card: #55 Duke Snider

“ The front design is good, but the back design is really interesting. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Snider played from 1947-1964 with the Dodgers, Mets and Giants. Career Stats: .295 Average, 407 Home Runs and 1,333 RBI. He was an 8x All-Star, won two World Series (1955 and 1959) and was voted to the Hall of Fame on his eleventh ballot in 1980. He died on February 27, 2011 at the age of 84. ” -carthage44

“ My wife is Thai, but we agreed our kids would have Anglo-Saxon names, so we ordered books and found names we liked together. Duke was one we chose (as the two famous people that jump out at me are John Wayne - The "Duke" and this fella). Thus, my son is the lone Duke in the family. I like also that it means "leader"...a dad can only hope! ” -bkklaos

“ Ah, that Dodgers script. ” -jlaz10

Growing up a Yankee fan in the 50's,   Snider was the epitome of evil.   I can picture the 1957 Topps card with Snider, Furillo, Campanella and Hodges.   I hated them.     Now, I love that card and respect those guys.  I can only imagine what they meant to the fans in Brooklyn.   True heroes.    Like Berra and Mantle to me.

The back of the card reads that Snider cracked 50 or more homers in 5 straight years.  That sounded amazing so I looked him up, but found that it was 40 or more in 5 straight years, not 50.  Great old-time player though.
