Year: 1997

Set: Ultra (Rate)

Card: #276 Ozzie Smith

“ Smith played from 1978-1996 with the Padres and Cardinals. Career Stats: .262 Average, 2,460 Hits, 28 Home runs, 793 RBI and 580 Stolen bases. He was a 15x All-Star, 13x Gold Glove Award Winner, Silver Slugger Award (1987), Roberto Clemente Award (1995), NLCS MVP (1985) and World Series Champion (1982). He was a first ballot Hall of Famer in 2002. ” -carthage44

“ This design was used for the 1996-97 NBA sets with holofoil name/team areas and Ultra logo...my all time favorite Ultra set. The 2004-05 Ultra set was done in what appeared to be a tribute to it as well, another set I liked quite a bit. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Aggravated assault charge in 3..2..1.. ” -SFC Temple

“ Best SS ever? Possibly. Best set ever? Not even close. But, it is a decent set, very good for the 1990s! ” -vrooomed

“ THE WIZARD! Nice card, and I like how it has his complete stats on the back instead of just the recent years. ” -jupiterhill

“ Even though the Cards last used their old navy road cap only two years ago, it seems so out of place. ” -jlaz10

“ Tragically, this photo was taken days before Ozzie disappeared in the "Springfield Mystery Spot". ” -UNC_Samurai

My alltime favorite player. I actually drove to Cooperstown from Illinois for his HOF induction. One of my favorite trips ever!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
