Year: 1991-92

Set: SkyBox (Rate)

Card: #619 Rickey Green

“ Always fitting when a player named Green plays for the Celtics- a team that has worn green for 70+ years now. (They actually predate the NBA!) Interestingly enough, this is my second Card of the Day in a row...and both Skybox sets, but in reverse order. (Hmm, will a 1990-91 card of mine come up tomorrow?) This set has a couple of things going for it- it's size and comprehensiveness, at 659 cards the largest NBA set ever produced. However each and every one of the player cards are all photos superimposed over an early computer generated backdrop, which really brings the enjoyment of the set down quite a lot. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Is there a goofier basketball set? The weird "3-D" '90s-style shapes, using the first name on the back, limited stats. How bizarre. ” -wax_house

“ i'm not too much of a basketball fan and def not a fan of this card. Low quality graphics, poor choice of pic on back of card. ” -tonym

“ another Skybox card (we had one yesterday as well the year later I believe). This set I like the simplicity except for the back stats, but don't like it being ALL white background with ALL white border. Actually it looks like it would have been better back in the 70s. ” -captkirk42

“ Nice stash on back! ” -carthage44

" Love the card design but I'm so glad that the shorts got longer over the years! " -m2collection

Green is just an average card of this set, which I couldn't appreciate for a long time, but finally I do. Limited stats and weird early fun with computer graphics are compensated by photos on the back: many very rare and presenting players in various interesting situations, not necessairly straight from the field (look at #83 Scott Hastings and tell that it's not fantactic). These cards are relics of time above just basketball, somehow brings those guys closer to us and that's the greatest value of 1991-92 Skybox. Something I miss in today's prints.

I can tell you this is Hoops with my eyes closed.   How can I do that?  Easy, I saw the card which forced me to close my eyes and shudder.     Not a good card
