Year: 2007

Set: Topps Total (Rate)

Card: #426 Brian Westbrook

“ Not too bad, something kind of different really. Not sure I've ever even seen these before. ” -Doc Floyd

“ Topps Total was a great concept with execution that didn't quite live up to expectations. Evety player in the league should get a card, and while they didn't do that they got a lot closer than most sets. Unfortunately they only did it for two years in the NBA, and the card backs were pretty much useless, with no stats whatsoever. Love the green border on this football version. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I don't pay much attention to football cards, but with so many players in close proximity during a game, it must be tough to isolate the subject in an action photo. Good to see they didn't waste too much color ink on the back! ” -dilemma19

“ I like the Topps Total concept and most of the sets. This one is OK basic on front but team name and logo should be on front, they are on the back. I don't mind the green border. Now-days it would be a green parallel no serial number and glittery or some kind of chrome refractorized monster. Back is OK to nitpick the card number should be at the top easier to see. The stats should be fuller. Overall a nice design. ” -captkirk42

“ I've never seen this set before. Sure could use a team name or logo on the front. I actually assumed this was a parallel, since Topps is so heavy on the white borders, but apparently it's a base card. I always like the concept of Topps Total, because it included a lot more players who got left out of other sets. Not sure if this set is the same way or not. ” -switzr1

“ I don't understand what that crap is overlayed on the front photo. If that wasn't there it'd be a nice front with the exception of lacking a team name. The back is a TOTAL mess. Brian was a heck of a good running back...and receiver. ” -C2Cigars

“ I can live with the front. It looks ok. A small enhancement would be the team logo under the position in the black box, but otherwise it is safe and simple. The back is a waste. I prefer individual season stats instead of current year and career lines. Unless it is just the scan, black and white is awful. And the bullet points? Seriously? ” -muskie027

“ I love Topps Total. ALL the players. Finally get cards of left tackles and punters. Fun stuff. A more difficult set than it looks. ” -cjjt

Man, I loved Westbrook! Had not heard the Tiki comparison before, I have heard "poor man's Marshall Faulk," which is debatable. Faulk did not handle returns and carried a bigger load. Westbrook was faster, shiftier, and had better hands- not saying Faulk was not a good receiver, the stats bear that out- but anybody that saw Westbrook play week-to-week knows that he was as good as any wideout.

I loved the idea of Topps Total, more players featured (like the good ol' days) and mini scouting report on the backs. Just wish they had a different layout on the backs. I am thinking lose the "Role" section in favor of season stats throughout career. And better writing...just give us a legit scouting report. Westbrooks could read:

  • Shifty, great balance and rare agility
  • Accelerates quickly
  • Sensational receiver

Key to Success: Versatility; active in return game, can play multiple positions
