Random Card of the Day

Year: 2016

Set: Topps WWE - Bronze (Rate)

Card: #17 D-Von Dudley

“ This design works so much better for Wrestling than it does for baseball. Not sure what that big white area on the card front is? It almost looks die cut but based on the back I am sure is not. I know nothing about wrestling so maybe it's part of the ring? Great scan, it's like I am actually holding this card in my hand. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ OH MY BROTHER! TESTIFY! D-VON! GET THE TABLES! ” -jupiterhill

“ Did Topps do right on this Dudley card and the rest of the set by using the same design plates from other sports in 2016? ” -Sportzcommish

“ Like the card design for baseball. Looks OK for wrestling too. ” -olerud363

“ Wrastlin' returns to the RCotD YEAH Brutha! OK Topps for the last few years has been pretty good with their using the same design for everything during the year. It makes it easy to identify when cards from each sport came out, but it takes away some of the fun and originality for each sport. NOW as for the color parallels and this being the "Bronze" parallel. I hate the way they have that. Some colors you can't tell it is a parallel. For the last couple of years I haven't like the standard Topps design. Every two or three years they look similar to the last few years then they change something slightly for another set of 3 years that look similar. Top it off (sorry about that pun) with designs that work better for digital images on websites than on pieces of cardboard, or rather lightweight card stock. ” -captkirk42

“ WWE....I appreciate many types of cards....but not these! As busy as the front is, the back is boring. ” -cnangle

“ GET THE TABLE! ” -beansballcardblog

“ Bad second run in the wwe for the dudleys ” -Bargunmaster

“ Remember seeing the Dudley Boys back in the early 2000's when they were with ECW. 6 man tag match, I think I was more exhausted than the wrestlers when the night was over. It was an incredible show and I miss those days of "in your face" hardcore wrestling. ” -rmitchell6700

“ Ohhhh, testify. More wrestling. I like it, even if it's a parallel. D-Von, get the table! ” -switzr1

“ For myself, as a person who writes rather verbosely, to be thinking that this card, the second wrestling card in a couple of weeks to be ROTCD, is lacking the ability to educate our youth in writing, specifically by utilizing adjectivial and conjunctive phrases in their sentences, is amazing. ” -kents_stuff

“ I know nothing of this man. ” -muskie027

This design works much better for WWE than for MLB, IMO. I don't know exactly why, but it just looks much better.

And @Billy: Yes, the white blob is the top of a ring-post.

I would say "why did WWE bring the Dudley Boys back", but it's the same reason they brought back so many former stars. They've been stealing the best talent from the lower levels of TV wrestling shows for years now. SO, first off, TNA is in the tank and can't afford to pay it's bills (including the wrestlers contracts). So WWE has been snatching everyone that left in the past to give them a another chance/final appearance on WWE. Secondly, WWE is hitting the skids too as PPV isn't really "Pay-per-view" anymore, since it only applies to WWE.com now and that only costs $10/month. Finally, WWE let USA Network get both of their only shows that air outside of WWE.com. I'm doubting that USA lasts much longer without dumping WWE or finally finding some other stuff that's worth watching. They are basically spending all of their money on WWE and the horrible Chrisley Knows Best show. Syfy is actually getting better now, since they stopped having to spend so much to air WWE Smackdown! That combo never made sense to me anyway. Without Syfy wasting money on WWE, they were able to finally get back to airing TV shows. "The Expanse" is the best original show they have aired since "Warehouse 13" and they mostly ended W13 because they couldn't afford to produce it anymore.

WWE mostly makes it's money from the thousands of live shows they do every year all over the planet! But they need a TV presence to make that keep working. I wish they'd spend more money on getting better writers b/c both shows have been pretty damn boring and completely predictable all year. I don't even have Smackdown on my DVR list anymore! There are much better shows on TV on Tuesdays than Smackdown. This is a big statement by me. Smackdown was always my favorite WWE program when it was on Thursdays and Fridays. Now, it's just a waste of time!

Very clever Commish!

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

Spaz, while I disagree with your opinion of SmackDown for the most part, I do agree that Shane McMahon in every PPV main event and major storyline is a TERRIBLE thing.  But I'll watch A.J. Styles and the Uso Penitentiary any day of the week.  And Tuesday just happens to be the day for it, right now.  Also, I'm really looking forward to the return of Rowan and Harper, which might be tomorrow.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I haven't watched either Raw or Smackdown lately, but if I had to choose I think Smackdown is the better show.  Though watching a few recent PPV's I do think Shane is being overused in matches.  Don't even get me started on that Survivor Series match last night.

I hope the Hardy's can do something of value soon, or else their return will be just like the Dudleys.

TNA screwed up the Hardys return by claiming rights to the Broken Hardys gimmick, but honestly, can you blame them?  That's a Vince tactic, through and through.  And if you haven't watched, you may not know that Jeff has an injury, and Matt by himself can't put on a good match without the heavy editing that his matches got on Impact. He's so immobile.  And he just isn't the same without his dilapidated boat and his obsolete mule.  Both Raw and SmackDown have plenty of talented guys that I like to watch.  Of course, most of them got buried last night.  Don't get me started on that match either!

On a positive note, NXT has Pete Dunne vs Johnny Gargano this week.  You may not have seen that if you aren't watching Raw.

Watch both Raw and Smackdown. Raw is a complete chore to watch live, so I have to do it on DVR. Smackdown isn't that bad.

Weeks where they run a NXT Takeover, a PPV, Raw, Smackdown + 205 Live (lol), and then NXT weekly show are nightmares. 2 1/2 hr for a TO, 4 hr for a PPV, 3 hr for Raw, 3 for SD and 205, then 1 hr for NXT is 13 1/2 hours of TV in a span of 5 days.

It's catering to me, a hardcore fan, but it's just too much. But, they don't care becaus they make all of their money on TV rights (not on the house shows).

All that being said, the 2016 Topps design was solid, for everything they used it for.

And when you do watch Raw live, you see what I just saw.  I did not expect that!

Sometimes, the ref conveniently forgets that there are no DQs in a Fatal Four-way match!!

Also, Mandy Rose.  That is all.

They've been doing that for ages now though, WCW was really bad about that in the nWo days. It's just par for the course now.

And yes. Mandy Rose. That is all. x2
