Year: 2010

Set: SPx - Rookie Materials (Rate)

Card: #RM-JC Jimmy Clausen

“ Man, can you imagine touching a piece of memorabilia that Jimmy Clausen wore? That's about "as close as you can get" to greatness. ” -OCHawkeye

“ Big fan of anything with the a Golden Domer, though Clausen was kind of a disappointment. Dig the card design, from the symmetry to the color scheme. Only knock: the "relic" was just from a rookie photo shoot. Seems like a cheap way to get a relic. Still, if I collected football, I would definitely pick this one up. ” -mycardboardhabit

“ This would have been a great card if it had been an NFL card. The design is really nice, and it's numbered, which makes everything better. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Poor Notre Dame QB's. ” -carthage44

“ Not a bad looking card at all , but it does contain the two words I hate to see on a memorabilia card "photo shoot ". ” -uncaian

“ I like game-used cards. This is a nice design too bad anyone that bought this card in 2010 did not make a good investment since Clausen did horribly in the NFL. ” -davidhandberry

“ "Event-used"...."rookie photo shoot". I guess that's better than an MEM card that includes something that is a replica of an item used in a photo shoot. I know people collect MEM cards, but some of them go a little to far in their interpretation memorabilia (IMHO). ” -cnangle

“ Why does Mel Kiper still have a job? ” -SFC Temple

“ Cool numbered MEM card. I like college football a lot more than pro. Somebody will probably complain that there's no helmet logo, but Notre Dame helmets have no logos. ” -switzr1

“ All sorts of reasons I don't like this card. Relic (jersey card), Rookie in College Uniform no mention of Pro team. Odd for a later (after 2000) GU card the back makes a big production of it being a GU card with the statement of Congratulations and not much else. ” -captkirk42

“ Beautiful relic card. Jimmy was one of my favorite Notre Dame QBs. Really thought he was gonna have a great NFL career. Oh well. Go Irish! ” -mkaz80

“ Mel Kiper had said he would retire if Clausen wasn't successful as an NFL quarterback. I kinda like Kiper, so I'm glad he reneged on that promise. ” -Brimose

“ One of the (many) players proving that Mel Kiper Jr. knows little more than the rest of us about who will succeed in the NFL. ” -beansballcardblog

“ Looks like last month's news. ” -RoundtheDiamond87

“ Love it! I am partial to Notre Dame, but even if it wasn't, there is a lot to like here. I like the picture, and since it is an insert, the netting on the sides adds a nice effect. The SN is cool and the coloring nails Notre Dame's. The initials in the jersey is icing on the cake. Too bad Clausen didn't end up half as good as this card! ” -muskie027

“ Did Jimmy Clausen ever take a snap in the NFL? ” -rmitchell6700

“ Like how the jersey spells out his initials ” -Bargunmaster

“ Cool that it's a limited print memorabilia card. Otherwise, though, it's just OK for me. ” -kents_stuff

This is the type of card that killed NFL cards for me. Not the design, but the "Event-worn Memorabilia". I hate that crap. If companies are going to do that, at least waste a T-shirt or hat instead of an actual jersey that was only made for them to wear on Rookie Premier Day. Such a waste of money that just jacks up the price they spend and the price they have to charge us for useless garbage. Just give me a plain Rookie card and skip the MEM if it's going to be crap.

And to rmitchell6700, yes he did. Unfortunately, he was a starter for the Panthers for part of the 2010 season. At least he helped us get Cam Newton in the 2011 draft! I thought he was signed with the Bears as a backup QB, but he might have got dumped after they drafted Trubisky.

Not a Notre Dame fame here of course but I like the college uniforms on cards for collectors that enjoy the NCAA more than Pros. I am 1 of those here lately more than 10yrs ago due to the "kneeling on a flag I bled on and pals died on" movement. I'm not speaking politics, I'm speaking "Patriots!" People down south and here in BAMA are more college oriented than others bcc we only have a handful of teams in pro leagues to even get behind and cheering for say the Atlanta Falcons who wear Georgia Bulldogs colors is a bit odd for us. The SEC areas outside of Florida, are pretty isolated as to pro teams. I like the card and wished the "Photo Shoot" patches were not used, it would be better to get the developed film insert bcz it was there huh? They did that with Frank Thomas "Slide Shows" back in the 90's.... Overall I like the card.
