Year: 2000

Set: SkyBox (Rate)

Card: #142 Carlos Febles

“ A non-pitcher bunting, and on a card front? Unreal. Skybox baseball, that just doesn't sound right to me still. ” -Doc Floyd

“ Strange motion blur for a bunting image. Doesn't make it an action shot. At least the back has some legit stats. ” -Lerxst2112

“ I am glad I know what this card looks like in hand because on the scan everything looks hard to read but knowing from experience that it is perfectly legible in person. I love this card. One of just a few years SkyBox made baseball and it is a great set. Different pictures on the front and back. Full picture. Well done picture, got the whole body in the picture. I honestly can't find a single thing that really bothers me. ” -davidhandberry

“ Fancy. ” -carthage44

“ Carlos is a cool guy, he’ll sign several cards at a time. ROY too. ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ Pretty good looking photo and card. A win in my book. ” -parsley24

“ All I can think of is setting up to bunt. Then I thought Ouch what if the ball angles wrong and smacks you in your fool face? Not even sure if that has happened or what the odds are of it happening. My question answered YES OUCH! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3FwJgds9SE ” -captkirk42

“ I like the picture, including the left side blurring out. What I don't like is the boring, basic foil stamping. I don't know that I bought any of this product back then. ” -beansballcardblog

“ 1. Bunting is a lost art. And a real rarity in the world of baseball cards. 2. This card is remarkably easy to read despite the foil. Great scan. I hope the actual card is also that clear. 3. Nice back on the card, too. ” -kents_stuff

“ Don't drop the bat head on a bunt, Carlos! ” -royals

Well just goes to show you how much baseball I DIDN'T watch during the latter part of the 20th century as I had to look up Carlos here as I don't even remember the slightest about him... hmmmm!

Dang, I missed a Royals COTD.  I liked Carlos #2 as Denny Matthews would say and I like this card.  I can't remember if I had any Skybox the first time I collected, but I see I don't have any now, so I might need to remedy this.

Sorry lfbBirdsCards, but Febles wasn't a Rookie of the Year. I believe that you're thinking of Carlos Beltran (1999), or maybe Angel Berroa (2003).

Always nice to see a Royals card as the COTD.

It didn't hit me until just moments ago, but its even cooler that a Royals card is featured as Card of the Day on the same day that the Royals host the Big Slick KC softball game.  It's a big money maker for the Children's Hospital in the Kansas City area and is done each year by Paul Rudd, Eric Stonestreet, Rob Riggle, David Koechner, Jason Sudeikis, and a bunch of their celebrity friends.  They have a softball game on Friday, then Saturday they bowl with some of the kids, and then that night have a poker tournament.  If I'm not mistaken, they raised 1 Million Dollars last year.
