Year: 1994

Set: Maxx Premier Plus (Rate)

Card: #166 Dale Jarrett

“ Seems like Dale won a big trophy here, so not sure why he looks green with envy. ” -kents_stuff

“ This image is taken from victory lane in the first race I ever saw! I was hooked for life already by this point. Unfortunately like most of the early Chrome style cards the people are turning green. Maxx actually created the "Topps Chrome" concept in 1993, three years before Topps did. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Why is his face green? ” -Young Kilo

“ This card looks pretty cool, but would have liked and identifier on the front, like a name or something. ” -muskie027

The name IS on the card. It is part of a subset that documented each race. The Database format lists the person shown, but it's really a card about a race, not a person.

Premier Plus was a very "fancy" card when they came out in 1993 and throughout the run. This set was ruined by the horribly designed backs though. The slew of funky colors on the front and back could have been eliminated to make the look of the cards much better. The front scan is horrible, but that's b/c of the card technology. Even with today's newest scanners, it's hard to get a good scan of those cards. The worst thing about Premier Plus cards is that they don't live well inside of packs for an extended period of time. Open some packs of these now and you'll get a bunch of ruined cards b/c they stuck together.

Billy, you missed something here. Topps made Finest in 1993 and that was the basis for the later Chrome sets. Finest and Premier Plus were basically the same technology. Maxx did a much better job with cutting those cards than Topps did though. It's very hard to find an early Finest card that isn't mis-cut in some way, but the MPP cards are mostly cut correctly.

Decent racing card. Not a fan of Chrome but y'all know that by now.

I missed commenting on this card since on the 4th of July my internet was out, odd my CrumbCrust bundle the internet and my landline phone were down due to the cable modem, but the TV cable was fine. Do'h I didn't even think about using my Droid, or my tablet to access wi-fi (my ancient laptop can supposedly do wi-fi but it never has)

I was correct in what I said. Maxx Premier Plus used the same images as the base set, which is what Topps Chrome did. Finest was unique designs.
