Year: 2017

Set: Topps Holiday (Rate)

Card: #HMW172 Tyler Glasnow

“ When I think baseball...First thought is always snow, of course. ” -ShoTime

“ Another parallel set? I hadn't even seen this set yet. The same exact thing as their other 20 parallels just with snowflakes in the corner. ” -davidhandberry

“ The concept of a holiday set is pretty neat and--if done well--could easily become a nice tradition for a lot of collectors. However, the execution leaves way too much to be desired. Just add this to the ever-growing list of Topps sets that leach off the flagship design: Chrome, Opening Day, Mini, Holiday. ” -mkaz80

“ Whoever at Topps said, "Yeah, let's put snowflakes on baseball cards!" should be fired. ” -vrooomed

“ OK I like Topps flagship sets usually. Some more than others. The last 3 or 4 years I have grown tired of the similar look they have. I DO NOT Like these gimmick parallels. And the "Holiday" snowflake variant is just that a stupid Gimmick. The problem with these gimmick parallel things is just enough people like the gimmicks that they keep doing them. That combined with the completest collectors who have to have the entire "master" set keeps this sort of thing going on. ” -captkirk42

“ Not a big fan of snowflakes on baseball cards. ” -Doe MG

“ Let me phrase this succinctly......no. ” -NJDevils

“ Even with the snowstorm coming in, Glasnow is still in short-sleeves. What a gamer. ” -royals

“ It wasn't until Tyler started to see the falling snowflakes that he understood the warning sign over the plate of brownies. ” -YoRicha

“ Nice touch with the snowflakes on the front. Really like these. ” -KMack

“ DON'T get me started on baseball in the snow. It's ridiculous what MLB puts fans through every year. And with the WS getting closer and closer to November, the Fall Classic is probably going to end up snowcovered sometime, too. And then there was a Spring Break game down in Orlando back in college...that was a fluke, I know. But still... ” -kents_stuff

“ Brr ” -IfbBirdsCards

“ Why is this needed? 2017 Topps is cool. ” -muskie027

“ This is a set that does not need to exist. It is just a money grab, plain and simple. ” -ketchupman36

The only thing wintery about baseball is the long pants required a part of the uniform. And even then, the timeline of the season is April to October, so unless the snow and sleet come early where you live, then baseball doesn't need cold-weather/holiday themed cards to represent itself. I think thought these cards were cool enough on their own in the base set.

I'm not a big fan of snowflakes, sparkles, and most other variations created just to make an extra buck.

Snowflakes on a baseball card? Absolutely not.

Snowflakes on a baseball field? Oh yes. We usually opened up our NAIA season on Valentine's Day weekend. We would go to Arizona for Spring Break, but that wasn't until March. It wasn't uncommon for us to play during snowfall, or in 25 degree windchill throughout Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, even Illinois and Indiana. Ah, small college baseball. I miss it every day.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

I have bought some of these a time or two at Walmart for something to open. I agree with the others just another of too many parallels already to chase. It would be cool if they made it a different set all together.
