Year: 1993-94

Set: TCM Caterpillar (Rate)

Card: #163 325L Excavator

“ Very neat design of an excavator card nonetheless! Both "action" photos are amazing. I collect diecast models of construction machinery so now I guess I need to look into these cards too.... ” -Eofet

“ Very cool card. I would collect this set. Never seen them before. ” -switzr1

“ I really miss the 1990s, when we got these wild and wonderful off the wall sets. I don't know how, but I missed this set when new. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ This proves it. They will make a card for everything. ” -davidhandberry

“ I have never seen these. When my 13 year old was younger he would have loved these, I'd say these came out when just about everything had a card set about it. Truth be told I probably would have picked up a pack or two if I had seen them at a show. ” -John Kerry

“ i feel like a little boy who loves trucks ” -Hilochef

“ The first series really sold well enough to warrant a series 2?!? Unbelievable. ” -trauty

“ It has better stats on the back than some Panini products. ” -rmpaq5

“ Wow, I never knew such a card set existed. My four-year-old son would love this. I actually think it's pretty cool, too! ” -mkaz80

“ I want this card. I want this whole set. I didn't know it existed until just now, and this is quite possibly the most excited I've been about a modern non-sport set ever. ” -Soldan

“ Nothing says Random than a card of a Caterpillar construction machine. ” -captkirk42

“ It's a shame that his career was cut short by such a devastating injury. I truly believe he could've been one of the all-time greats ! Granted, that arrest on Draft night didn't help his reputation ..... Oh wait ..... You said "325L Excavator"??? ..... Never mind. ” -altaeria

“ this seems like something a young collector could start with. As an adult, this should be a big no though. ” -parsley24

“ They make cards for EVERYthing, don't they... ” -Vvvergeer

“ The player collector in me says... you don't need this card. Yet the man in me see this card and feels drawn to it. Makes me feel...playful. ” -YoRicha

“ Dude---the 325L! Considerably upgraded from the 325J a couple of models earlier. Improved the 0-to-60 time by like a second-and-a-half or something. Seriously, though, this is a decent card for what it is. Nice photos and what I presume would be the key stats and info about the subject. So for what it is, I'm fine. My struggle is the WHY it is. ” -kents_stuff

“ cooler than a movie card at least ” -Thunderfoot

“ Sometimes I have to laugh when I see what they made cards of. Not that I am against it, I actually like it, but I still have to laugh. ” -muskie027

I seriously considered buying a couple of boxes of these cards - mainly because Bob Feller and Karl Malone each autographed 500 chase cards.  Now I forget what the connection was...Were they both construction enthusiasts?

Anyone else notice that Bob Feller the Baseball player and Karl Malone (Basketball) are linked to this set.  Cool looking set.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Soooo... just when you think..."I've seen about everything that constitutes "random" and "boom" ( no pun, yea.. pun intended!) up comes something "completely different" ( Monty Python ). This generates a lot of interest all the same.

Karl Malone is a noted collector of heavy equipment and trucks.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.

I'm not amazed that this card exists, I'm amazed that its from the 1990s, and not the 1970s or 1980s, where a lot of random "encylopedia" like "learning" cards were produced.

Billy already started saying what I was thinking. Plus, Karl Malone also owned a trucking line at one point, I believe. And I remember seeing one of the Feller cards at some point - he grew up on a farm in Iowa. Here's a great article about him and his farm roots, tying in to his memories of a Caterpillar tractor

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

This just reminds me of going to work and slaving all day out in the sun in my younger days when I worked for an excavator.  I'm waitng for the air-conditioned cubicle cards.

I want to go to the Caterpillar museum in Peoria someday. I saw a show about it on PBS the other day.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff.  Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

About 7-8 years ago, we made our way to Moline, and visited the John Deere HQ and museum (Peoria was not within the range of our travels). For my son who was huge into that stuff at the time, it was the best vacation ever. (That was also the vacation we went to Wrigley and we went up in the Willis tower - now I work for the company that owns the tower!)
