Year: 2008

Set: Upper Deck Goudey - Mini Red Backs (Rate)

Card: #282 Cal Ripken Jr.

“ About as basic a card design as one will find. Sometimes less is more, and this is the case here. ” -John Kerry

“ I had actually forgotten about Goudey coming back for a few years. This was Upper Deck's try at vintage cards because when you have only been around for less than 20 years you can't rehash your own cards so you buy up an old property and slap your name on it. Reminds me of an old card from the 20's or 30's so they got what they wanted. Congrats, I guess. ” -davidhandberry

“ Throwback player in a throwback set! One of the final years UD could use MLB trademarks, if I’m not mistaken. ” -stevejrogers

“ I'm generally not a fan of mini or jumbo cards but can appreciate some of the retro designs especially the Topps T205/6 releases in the early '00s. ” -weight333

“ I am falling in love with most of the old school heritage type cards. This is one that is pretty good. ” -parsley24

“ Cool Cal card. Love the Retro UD Goudey cards from 2007 and '08 that were the size of the original 1930s Goudeys. ” -captkirk42

“ Nice layout, good card. ” -Kirbythedodger

“ I don't like it. If you're gonna knock off Sport Kings, call it Sport Kings. Before I looked, I just knew there would be women on the checklist and that would be the reason. Call them Sport Queens. Whatever. But Sport Royalty just sounds dumb to me in this context. ” -switzr1

“ These cards were awesome when they came out. Mini cards really stand out when you pull them from a pack of cards. I remember thinking these will be worth a lot of money in the future. Well it's not but at least collecting is more affordable now. ” -mrrosado

“ I have a love hate relationship with these throw back type cards. I do have to say though the love is for the way they look and that seeing modern players in vintage designs is cool. The hate is more philosophical, the quantity of these and the sacreligious feeling towards reuse of the design. Overall though, the scale tips in favor of loving them. This is no exception. ” -muskie027

“ Nice Heritage Card. Love Goudey Heritage. ” -kirkscards

“ I've never been a fan of different back parallels. Maybe because if it is in a binder you can't see a difference, or maybe it is because it is just a way to annoy team collector's like me. ” -rmpaq5

I L-O-V-E Goudey. Don't know why, don't care why. The use of colors, borders, and fonts on these cards plus the odd size gets me everytime.

Cool!  Those are my scans!

I've always been a fan of these Goudey cards.  Nice clean throwback design.
