Random Card of the Day

Year: 2009-10

Set: Ultra - Gold Medallion (Rate)

Card: #9 Kari Lehtonen

“ Cool, a card I actually have as card of the day...pretty rare when it's not one of my scans! Ultra's Gold Medallion is my 2nd favorite parallel concept in cardboard history. (Trailing only the Refractor concept). Unfortunately I came late to the NHL so I didn't get to see the Thrashers play. It seems like Atlanta's not going to take to hockey like some other warm-weather places have (meaning Las Vegas). He played as recently as last year, with Dallas, but appears to be without a job this season. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I've never seen this Ultra design. I like it. ” -switzr1

“ Pretty cool shot. ” -Splinter_9

“ I absolutely loved those red Thrashers sweaters, and somehow it looks awesome on this Gold Medallion parallel. ” -Gunny

“ I was a huge fan of the Fleer Ultra brand. So much so I now buy Fleer Showcase when I can afford some. I think the last Ultra set for hockey was 14-15. Nice full photo on front but the wheat field at the bottom ruins the shot. Back is way to plain with them reminding us over and over that it is in fact Ultra. Again solid 6. ” -ranfordfan

“ Great photo, but the graphic at the bottom is distracting. Nice try Fleer. ” -parsley24

“ Scan by nicksang. ” -Kirbythedodger

“ Except for the fact the foil lettering for the name is a little difficult to actually read the front is pretty good. It can be seen and somewhat read but it is difficult to comprehend (hard to read the H and T). Nice action shot. I still don't like landscaped (horizontal) cards much. Back I can't complain about much. IN the case of rookies and guys with little league experience there is too much empty space. A mini bio or some career highlights would fill the space nicely. ” -captkirk42

“ "Big save, Goldberg! We'll get 'em in overtime!" ” -vanstryland

“ Less would be more...great pic monkey'd up by the amber waves of border. ” -wjhipwell

“ This is a pretty fantastic photo. I don't remember that version of the Thrashers jersey...then again, I don't claim to be a historian of the club. ” -mkaz80

“ One of the best goalies in Thrashers history. Learn more about him in the Thrashers/Jets goalie list I made. ” -Tylergallo

“ Nice action picture. Too much wasted space on back. ” -uncaian

“ This is really nice Rcotd. Hockey card, great photo, good looking horizontal (sometimes horizontals work and this is the time), gold medallion parallel, team from the past, and of course Finnish player. Go Finland! ” -Duke

“ Forgot he was a Thrasher. Heck, forgot about the Thrashers, lol. Nice looking card! I love it! ” -muskie027

This card was made after Fleer folded and Upper Deck re-started the Fleer Ultra line of cards. UD did a good job re-creating the Ultra brand and I like this card overall. A great photo on the front and all of his stats on the back. They could have used the extra space below the stats for some trivia about the player and/or team though. The team logo on the front in gold foil would have been a nice addition too. I like it.

Nice card overall but just a little to much "thrashin'" going on at the bottom on the front.Besides that slight distraction an 8 out of 10 in my books.

This hurts...(*tears up*) Hockey..isn't real...  Wasted so much of life in the company suite watching this team get shredded by the rest of the NHL.

I loved ultra from 1992 on in all sets.  The 1991 inagural sets were same card stock as regular fleer and they caught on quick to make it premium.  There were a few sets in the early 2000's that were basically upper deck duplicates but over all i like their product.  The gold medalion parallel sets were a bit gaudy at first but the subtle change on the front in later sets is awesome!

Should have left the back blank.....oh, they almost did.
