Year: 1994

Set: Collector's Choice - Gold Signature (Rate)

Card: #667 Ruben Santana

“ His T looks like a P to me. ” -Billy Kingsley

“ And I just noticed...he abbreviated Ruben as Rub! ” -Billy Kingsley

“ I looked him up and I am very confused. His power never showed up like they thought but what team can't use a second baseman that hits around .300? From 1991 to 1996 his lowest batting average for a season was .293, yet he only was brought up to AAA for 17 at bats in all those years. After 1996 he had to go to independent ball despite hitting .300 for the season. ” -davidhandberry

“ A mariners rookie. With out even looking, i am going to say we traded him for a bag of balls. **After looking** In an unknown transaction, he wound up in the Reds organization, where he hit .293 with 11 home runs, 79 RBI and a career-low two stolen bases for the Chattanooga Lookouts in 1995. https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Ruben_Santana ” -parsley24

“ Not sure what to say about this card. I like Upper Deck normally but have problems with their "Collector's Choice" sets/series as they never seemed to be even close to what Collectors liked or even chose. Sigh a "gold signature" card like the MVP "silver" and "gold" sigs faux signature designs scream semi-gimmick to me. Back OK for 1990s card I guess. ” -captkirk42

“ That's a full paragraph of text on the back...clearly from the pre-Internet era. As much as I like the details, the back is just not aesthetically attractive. ” -vanstryland

“ I was a big Collector's Choice guy, so it's cool that I'm commenting on this one, while the Jordan one is the actual RCOTD today. Very nice card here. I like it a lot! ” -switzr1

“ Not a set I collect ” -molyles1944

“ Man, I was 14 when this came out and I absolutely loved this set. I should probably put it together one of these days. The silver and gold sigs were a great idea for parallels. ” -mkaz80

“ Not sure why, I never really like the Collector's Choice sets. They just remind me of a cheaper version of Upper Deck. By the time they were big, I was out of collecting, but looking back, they are only ok. ” -muskie027

“ Can’t say I’ve heard of this guy. Those uniforms are cool though. ” -fedoratipper
