Random Card of the Day

Year: 1995

Set: Takara Yakult Swallows (Rate)

Card: #39 Shinichi Sakurai

“ This is probably my favorite random card to come up lately. I love seeing foreign cards. I have no idea what it says on most of the card but something about obscure, oddball, or foreign cards draws me in. If I was comparing it to an American card, the front is okay maybe a 5 and the back is awful, probably a 1, but as it is, it is amazing to me. ” -davidhandberry

“ I am certain that Mrs Gunny could read this card. Me, after Swallows, not so much. ” -Gunny

“ I'm glad we have members like DaClyde who can translate these to English for the rest of us! ” -switzr1

“ Interesting International RCotD. I think this might be the first Japanese Baseball card we have had for the RCotD. Not sure if the card itself has rounded corners. The back scan, and scans of the rest of the team set, looks like the card does have intentional round corners, the front with the black corners makes it hard to tell. I don't read Japanese so I don't know what the back is saying. ” -captkirk42

Is this a game card, like APBA or something?

All cards should have rounded corners. Grading companies would lose part of their ability to manipulate grades for corners for their own benefit.

These were issued as little boxed team sets as Takara Pro Baseball.  It came with a pair of tiny dice, and a larger "game board" that folds out as a baseball field.  No idea how to play, but I think the dice combinations on the reverse of the cards determine your actions.  The older sets came in boxes with two stacks of cards side-by-site and a spinner, along with the "board" and instructions.
