Year: 1990

Set: Leaf (Rate)

Card: #354 Don Slaught

“ Don Slaught sounds like the alter ego of a superhero/supervillain named "Onslaught". ” -Billy Kingsley

“ Another set that hasn't aged well for me. I remember this set as one of the first "premium" sets that came out, meaning that it was supposed to be nicer than Donruss. Just like Topps came out with Stadium club and Fleer came out with Ultra. I remember really liking this set but as my taste have evolved, it is too much of a copy of Upper Deck and very boring. I like the back, though I wish it didn't have those boxes next to the picture. ” -davidhandberry

“ Too much white on the front. ” -kirkscards

“ Ahh back in the day when this was considered a premium set. ” -YoRicha

“ The Onslaught of Don Slaught continues... ” -royals

I'll forgive the horrible scans for now since they were posted over 6 years ago. As for the card and set, I still like 1990 Leaf. I liked the 1991 Leaf set better for design, but the 1990 set had better appeal b/c of the RC's in the set. The backs of 1990 Leaf cards were awesome, especially when you look at modern cards. All the stats you can wish for on there and that appears to be what most of us long-time collectors wanted to see then and still wish to see today. The 1991 Leaf set followed the same design for the back, but they strayed some in 1992 with dropping lots of lines of stats for younger players.

Nice simple and good card design. Pitty that only a few years later 1990s cards would be so unattractive as the norm.
