First of all: are there any European collectors that use this awesome website? If yes, where do you trade and sell your "American sports" cards?
I live in The Netherlands and collecting "American sports" cards is costly and almost non-existant. I get NBA hobby boxes from a German online store for +/- $20 bucks over the US price. Getting stuff out of the US costs even more because of additional import charges. That's OK though, we can get them eventually, so no reason to whine.
But, and this is my point: I find it almost impossible to trade or sell any duplicate cards and sets. Anyone else experiencing this?
I had high hopes for Ebay but I found the opposite is true:
A) Supply is plenty in the US. Why would most of your potential client base look elsewhere?
B) Ebay.com settings are standard for items to be shown in the US. You need to actively set the Advanced search location option to 'Worldwide'. See above for the reason not to even think about that.
C) The Euro is strong now opposed to USD and from my Ebay country site, I can't list a simple card under EUR 1, which makes prices uncompetitive for those who do choose to look overseas.
Surely this site could help, so it would be nice if there are more "Euro folks" over here so we can help eachother out. Let's create a little spark here!!

i often wondered about that- always hear about the shipping cost and have to think about is it worth paying more for shipping that the actual card(s) are worth?? but i guess if the person wants it bad enough.
have any idea what the cost is or has someone just mailed a single card to you from the US?
Have you looked at Blowout Cards.com?? they ship international, have no clue on cost though.

I am from Europe (Sweden to be more specific). It is a problem getting collections from the US due to the shipping costs. I usually wait until some collectors bring the cards to Europe. I only collect soccer cards though. I am mainly using eBay and laststicker.com for buying and trading.

Thanks for the responses, didn't know the websites mentioned yet!
Actually for me shipping a single card to the US would cost around $2. For like 5 cards in a toploader you're looking at $5. That's alright for special insert cards I guess? Shipping from New York to San Francisco might be the same amount (I don't know really) ? But it gets ugly fast for bigger lots. E.g. I have two boxes with each like 10 kilos of cards but shipping these to North America costs approx. $70 each, which is the value of more than, say, 60% of the cards themselves.
Getting stuff from the US is costly because of the shipping, but also the often overlooked import charges. E.g. I recently got a NBA Panini Complete 2015-16 12-box case for $136 at Dave & Adams (who ship really fast though). Paid $204 total of which $33 were import charges. Crazy as it may sound, I found the best deals for smaller lots of individual cards (like 5 or more) at Asian and Australian Ebay sellers.
Soccer is a different thing, we have many card series over here. However soccer cards from US brands like Donruss are totally uninteresting for the Dutch market. I like them though in terms of quality and design, even though the info on the backs are often clearly written by non-experts. I tried to sell some Donruss duplicate sets and inserts but no luck. All they want here are the game cards to play online with and the glossy binder to store them in. It is also mostly a kids hobby here and frowned upon if you walk into a store as a 30+ y/o and ask for soccer cards. Also quite frankly, we don't take the MLS very seriously here so cards associated with that will not find their way over here...we kinda see it as a league where old stars tend to cash in before they retire.

I've taken a memorabilia card holder and penny sleeve, put three cards in it, took the cereal box cardboard trick in a PWE someone else recomended here on this site, and sent them to Spain on a trade. The cost was $3.23.

That's interesting.. but don't feel bad, some of us older folks here too get that stare in certain places. I was at a shopping area mall a couple months ago that sponsored a small card show- it was something at else at times. some people would actually walk by and stop and give you the bewidled look , like "seriously??" HA.. but oh well.
i don't collect soccer, but soccer has become very big here in Orlando since the expansion teams a couple years ago. so my local store always has new product. email a player or two or something you're looking for- maybe i can help out.
