Hello
I'm new to the website and really don't know much about it. I've inherited a room of sports cards. Right now I'm making lists of what I have and what I will need to complete some sets. I do have a lot to get through. Like Topps 1991 I have 5 boxes, each box is a 930 count box and this is the story for almost every set I have. I'm starting to make a dent in the baseball cards. But still, have hockey and football waiting for me. lol I would like to make 3 set of each set I have if I can. One for me and the other two for my nephews.
As I look around, I have found some missing photos of cards I have that were not here. So I've uploaded the images of them. I was surprised there were no Images of cards when some have them listed. I clean and post album covers on a few websites so this was 2ed hand to me.
Soon I will get to the point where I can start listing what I have to trade and what I will be looking for.
So I need to know how does trading and selling work here?
Do we go by Beckett price? Do we mail them to each other? I need info to help me and to help others that are looking for cards I have.
Thank You
RJ Smith

There are no rules to trading. Most use some sort of pricing guide to try to keep trades fair for both sides but it is simply a mutual agreement. Yes you just both mail cards to each other. It's been a great site for trading for me.

anything you want to sell or trade make sure you add that card to your For Sale/Trade list. Doing this will match it to other's Wantlist.
If you're selling a card, put a price in the field. Most people use Ebay or some other site as a general rule for a reasonable price, but in the end it's going to come down to what you would like to get for it and what someone is willing to pay for it- thats to be worked out between you and the buyer.
use the Transaction Manager for doing trades- this keeps track of who is requesting what along with their address and the sequence of the transaction. And yes, you mail each other the traded cards, or mail direct the card sold.
Much of this. really all of it, it done on the honor system. So if you do try to scam you will be faced by a Gorn and zapped into obilivion to a place that the Stormtroppers or Galadriel won't be able to subdue additional pain or The Avengers won't be able to find you. (tha'ts my gist on sci-fy)
Other than that, enjoy and have fun :-)

I woud say that trading here is not geared towards profit. Its a way to get rid of cards you don't want/need and get cards you do want/need. For me personally, I think trying to go by price guide is just nitpicking. Unless there's card(s) in the deal that are vastly more valuable than the others, its a pretty common sense thing to keep it even..

Yup splinter, exactly....all supply and demand, I really hate trying to even out prices with, more cards, less cards, vintage, no vintage etc. PIA !!!

I love trading on here. The nice part of using the transaction manager is it will automaticly add the cards you receive to your personal collection and remove the ones you send from your trade list. And there’s a bunch of really nice dudes on here. I haven’t had a bad trade yet.

Here are the rules:
1 - Treat the other person as you would like to be treated.
Ok, so I guess it's only one rule. LOL
Seriously, if you follow what everyone else has said, you'll do fine on here. Some people like to do a card for card (quantity), some will pull out Beckett magazines and add everything up that way. Some will only do vintage for vintage, and newer for newer. The key to it all is open communication. Be honest and over-communicate. I'd rather hear about how lunch did sit with you right and how you wound up going to bed before you could get to the PO to send out the package, than not hear about the package going out late. (Yes, I know that was extreme and potentially humorous, but that was the point.) You'll find that most people here are trying to find good homes for their extras. It's a good crowd. Welcome!

Welcome to the site! I don't have a lot to add that hasn't been said. Communication is key and how a trade is done is worked b/t the 2 participants. The one thing I want to say that hasn't been said yet...
When you start to trade, don't jump in with both feet. You'll get overwhelmed quick. Try doing only 1 or 2 trades at a time. Make sure there isn't crossover where 2 people are asking for the same card when you only have one copy. Just because a trader card of yours is in one trade offer doesn't mean it can't be in the next offer too! It still shows up as a For Trade card until you have marked the trade as shipped. The same goes for your wantlist. Too many trades at once means you can also get the same card multiple times when you only wanted one copy. There are many of us here that would be happy to deal with you and teach along the way. Your best bet starting out is to trade with long-established members with lots of feedback (and most will have lots of forum posts too). Also, many traders will ask you to ship first until you get some trades under your belt. That's why you should start with traders that have a good track record!

I'm only about a month old on this site and wanted to add a couple things.. As I was getting familiar with the site and "trolling" :) profiles/transanctions/feedback just to get a handle on things i was concerned that the honor system might work to my disadvantage as I was and had no transactions and feedback. Who wants to swap cards with people who don't know me from Adam. I did try to post a little in the forums and upload some images that i had just so when I did propose a trade the person on the other end might say"I know he's new, but I've seen his name pop up a couple times.". Did it help or not? I don't know. But I can say that the a few people gave me a change right off the bat and I have nothing to positive things to say about this group.
My best advice advice, If you are unsure of anything, propose a trade and ask questions. I think I probably drove AirPete a little crazy with my first set of questions.
As far as trading goes, I try and do a combo of card for card and value to a point, with my limitied collection it's hard to match card for card. I've traded with several already that are way more generous that I would ever imagine.

I thank everyone for the honest feedback. Good to know that there are people that have the integrity to stick with the rules of the website and I don't have to think twice about trading cards here. Because I'm going to need that. I'm about 3 months in on making lists of what I have and what I need and I'm about close to a 3ed of the way through the cards I have. My Fathers collection is massive and completing what he is missing and passing them on, is going to make me the uncle that rocks! let alone helping others here to complete what they are looking for. You have to understand my daughters are music and art as I am and my sister's children are sports as my father was. So for me to cross that bridge for them is going to be wonderful for me to see that light in their eyes.
I Thank you all. RJ Smith
