KC Athletics and Oakland Athletics are the same team. I did specify 2 different teams.

I guess that the wording "very different teams" threw me. Was looking for something more obscure.

Though yes, they are both the same teams, the wording in the first try obviously left most of us with him as the only candidate.  Happy I got both "right" thogu I will say that having answered Odom on the first try really kept me down rabbit holes on the second try till I got away from baseball in trying to find the guy who had played with DeBusschere on a different team.

To all, I am not criticizing Dan here.  These trivia scavenger hunts are fun and sports educational, even though these last 2 were beasts.  Making up these questions cannot be easy; what is easy is to think that one has eliminated all possible answers but the right one only to have the players reveal other possible answers (which I am sure shocks Dan when they start showing up). If it was easy to find the answers, even ranfordfan would play.

Even without prizes, I would try to solve them if anyone else wants to try to come up with similar questions (it would be nice to have some without the "Phillies" flavour). Joking Dan! You obviously love your Phillies not just to watch but to know more about your players than most fans ever do.

And they don't all have to be mostly focussed on baseball if any other sports fans want to try.

I also had Odom as the only possible answer, although I wasn't satisfied with it because I didn't consider the Kansas City and Oakland A's to be different. I tried everything else, including all managers and coaches for the White Sox from the late 60s into the 80s since the question didn't actually say the person (and his teammate) retired as players, but as professionals. I still couldn't get anything to fit, other than Odom. The second time around was much faster, because I figured there was no other option than for the teammate of Debusshere's to have been both a basketball and baseball player (like him), which quickly narrowed it down to just a couple of possibilities.

I loved it, and hope we have a chance to do it again, in any or all sports. Like sandyrusty, I would do it without prizes.

This one took me a long time, and I wasn't going to go down the Phillies slant. I wanted it to cross sports because I know I do WAY too much baseball. I know Q2 this time was non-sport and Q1 was football. I also liked going after very easy up to harder and nearly impossible.

And yes, it was a bear when I wanted to go after a HOF pitcher that played with Willie Mays that saved someone's 1st career win. Warren Spahn was also on Mays team and he had a bunch of saves and IIRC several were for first wins. That's why I had to include 1st of 3 career wins and then narrowed it down even further with the save number.

When the different answers that I don't expect pop up, yep, I go and "reverse engineer" and see if it can really also fit. That happened with one of the other questions I did a while back and saw that I only looked at TCDB's list of players for a team (who had cards while with that team) instead of the actual list of players. Made a big difference, and allowed a lot more answers. When I saw everyone going with Odom, I was going nuts. I quickly looked at who he had played with and was trying to see who played with DeBusschere and him - and ended their careers (and yes Reed and Luzinski never coached pros after they retired - Luzinski coached HS baseball locally in south Jersey after he retired) with the White Sox. I noticed after the fact that I neglected to say that they ended their careers in the same season with the same team. And I read that over at least 30 times. (No exaggeration.)
