I'm fairly new here, and decided to set up a few FAIR trades. The first one I needed 10 1978 commons. I offered 5 1978 Stars for the commons off the guys want list. He countered by asking for a 1967 Sandy Koufax card, plus a few more. Come on, a 67 Koufax for 10 1978 commons???
The second trade involved about 10 1981 Fleer Cards. I offered 5 1983 Star cards in mint condition off the guys want list. Guy wanted a 1970 Seaver card that is probably worth about as much as the ENTIRE 1981 Fleer set. I give up...shaking my head.

do not let a few members discourage you. Keep trying or be polite and say no thank you. How long has this member been here?

I have 100's of doubles for 1978 (and 1979). They're listed on my ebay page as a pick lot, but are also available for trade. My want lists are updated on this site, but my trade doubles are only listed on Ebay.

My two cents worth. In every trade the "fairness" is up to the traders involved. You have the extremes: People who insist on the total base value of all cards be exactly equal for example $40 worth of cards for $40 worth of cards. You also have people who insist on only the same year of vintage for the same year of vintage. There are also those who are just about the exact card count 100 cards for 100 cards of approximately the same $value and general vintage. Most people are somewhere mixed in that madness.
I generaly don't even think about specific price values. I do however tend to stick to like card for like card. I often grimmace at trades of ten 1960s and 70s cards for twenty mid 1980s cards. Several times on Zistle I had to turn down trades where they wanted a few of my late 1970s cards for about twice as many mid 1990s cards. The cards they were offering were not high on my priority list to complete those years/sets and the cards they wanted I didn't realize were even on any of my trade lists. Sometimes I was correct and the cards they wanted were clearly not on any of my trade lists. I finally had to empty my trade lists over there. I was sick of getting offers for cards I either didn't have or didn't want to trade away.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42

I only collect pre-'85 Topps Football. My trade list contains mostly '80's to 90's football and baseball. I do have a pretty large trade list of 70's football, but it is sometimes difficult to match years and values perfectly. To make matters worse, I value vintage football way more than any other cards (regardless of "book" value). Every trade that does not contain vintage football for vintage football is lopsided to me. However, if I refused a trade based on my skewed value system I would have a lot of cards I don't need and would still have a lot of gaps in my collection.
Maybe I've been fortunate so far, but everyone on this site I've traded with has been more than fair and reasonable when it comes to modifying trades. A little communication goes a long way.

You can always counter on a trade vs. a flat-out rejection. Trading is a negotiation. Sometimes a little back-and-forth makes better trades.

Maybe you've done this already, but I try to add a little note when I submit a trade if it isn't a 'obvious' even swap (by which I mean exact numbers of exact sets of exact player quality). So offering 5 1978 star cards for 10 1978 common cards for example would have a little note describing why I think it's fair, with a reminder that counters are welcome. Hopefully that prevents someone from trying to pull a ridiculous counter.

REAL GOOD advice being offered here on all levels......I do a ton of trading here, with ALOT of sucess and met the most AWESOME people along the way. 1 card or 101 cards its all good to me an most people here feel the same way I think......Sometimes you send more cards, sometimes you get more. As has been pointed out, counter, thats the fun :)...........Lastly, DO NOT let one bad experience get you down. This site is BY FAR THE BEST, AS ARE THE PEOPLE IN IT.
