I know we have all been burned by the infamous "scammer" and most of us painfully accept this fact of life concerning trading cards but it doesn't lessen the blow. This most recent has been the third time for me. Still in that 30-40 day window with no check in so, just maybe there is still hope. The coincidences are what kill me. Strange that the last check in was when my end of the deal was supposed to arrive at their location. All this boo-hooing is to ask a question... is there no way to vet accounts? No way to prohibit dual, triple, quadruple accounts? The more I scan feedback for the golden ticket, for that comment that says "Have no fear, trade freely and often because this is guaranteed", the more I see members complaining about the differing accounts users have to scam people. How do we remove these scammers and their accounts? Complaint process? Negative comments = account suspension until resolution? Something!! Trading is the reason I use this wonderful community but it is sadly souring with no controls over trading other than "Good Luck!" BTW, anyone trade with waddell51? I took a chance with no feedback. I took into account the length of membership and the instant reply to messaging. THe comms were consistent until... well, you know.

Really is crap that some (few) members here do this to others. But more and more, if there is no feedback, I hesitate to trade with someone. It may get to where I ask that I receive the cards they send me before I mail mine out. Let them establish a solid feedback from reputable traders and then, welcome to the trading club!

Sorry about that SFC, but I believe when it comes to first-time trades with long-time members the site's disclaimer doesn't seem to apply as much, but it should. I haven't had that experience, yet, but it still angers me when it happens to others.
I believe at least the two controls we have - which won't help you - is to post their ID here as you have, AND leave feedback on their profile page.
I would also support having a "Scammer Page", but would have it controlled by Admin after having concluded from evidence that the label applies. Anyone who legitimately cares to clean up their act would do so and inform Admin of what they've done to make amends.

As someone who trades here ALOT , I do my homework before trading with anyone.......If I have never heard of you or you have minimum feedback , you ship 1st or no deal......I also rely on the members here. If a person has good feedback from a good number of members here who I deal with, I do the trade.......I try to trade with the same people as often as I can. I welcome new friends, but the regulars tend to be more trustworthy.
There is another group which has a rule along the lines of the 1st 20 trades you MUST ship 1st in order to develop a track record. Could that work here ? I dont know. I only use this site.

I don't know about the first 20 trades. I've been on this site quite a while but only have three trades, and I've been spot on with all of them. According to this idea I would have to send my side of the trade first. I think that's quite unfair.

In my opinion these two comments epitomize the effect of bad traders. When two honest collectors/traders are hesitant to trade because of the fear of getting burned by the other.
I agree with engin614, a solid track record of positive feedback is my primary method of judging a trade partner. I also look at how long someone has been a member, their point total (if someone takes the time to contribute, then I feel they are invested), and thier forum postings (are they generally positive or are they overly negative/critical).
But I also know how deporcoruna feels. If sportzcommish wouldn't have taken a chance on a trade with me eventhough I had zero feedback, I may not have started trading here.
So its a balance between caution and trust. I won't do a 100+ card trade with someone with negative feedback or who has not "proven" themselves through other successful trades or active participation in the site. I would do a small, low dollar amount trade to "test the waters" with a new member.
I will not trade with anyone who has a history of negative feedback though. Even if they say they are trying to repair thier profile. They must make amends with everyone they have had a bad trade with before I would even consider it. I won't support someone who either intentionally or through unintentional mismanagement makes bad trades with honest members.

Excellent post Chad. I have NEVER made a trade on here so the parameters to me are skewed. However I am pretty sure using your criteria I would pass with flying colors. I have my first trade in the proposal state as both of us are not ready to do so as we keep adding. Long story short there is no perfect answer sadly.

Simply frustrating that it takes an investigative effort before a trade. I have taken all of your comments and am trying to come up with my own rubric. It's interesting that I have been sitting on this post for awhile and the straw that nudged me to post was reading ICPfan4life's feedback; in hopes of starting a trade!
