I have been going to update, verify and clean up my Excel file of my PC for several months now.  I'm being force to now as my file crashed and burn.  Tried recovering it but it did not work.   My back up was several months old.  Just missing 160 cards so that is not bad.  Biggest issue is I did a lot of clean up and verifing of cards just the last month.  I know backup every change. or at less every week.

2 or 3 weeks now of work.

Big bummer

I've been there. I lost my entire life time of work circa 2005. Now I keep three copies at least, backing up whenever I leave the computer, even just to go wash my hands, on days when I do typing work. It was such a devastating loss to me that it contributed to my leaving the NBA in 2006, which I now regret.

Just a couple of months ago I had a similar situation where I lost files for my collection but luckly I keep lists on an external hard drive. I did loose a month or so worth of additions but that wasn't too bad and easy to correct.

try operating off a portable hard drive, this way if your computer crashes it will be there. always keep two copies, one on there and your puter

I have converted my excel file to a Google sheets file and now it is backed up on the cloud and it is available to me anywhere from any device where I can log into my Google account.  It doesn't have ALL the same functionality as Excel, but it works well and is backed up. It's also easy to share with others.

I also moved to Google Sheets. In fact I moved every excel spreadsheet I had to it and haven't looked back. - Mark

External hard drives are a godsend.

Don't trust externals totally. I had one die on me in 2016, still have not been able to figure out or recreate all the stuff I lost.

I did buy a new one though, not from the same company.

It does not matter how many backups you have IF you do not keep them up to date.  I had 4 copies main computor, an old computor, and 2 flash drives.  The problem was they were  diff.  Just do not do at home what I did at work. (backup every day)

I have gone through the years up until 2002.    Cleaning up titles to match what is here.  1998 was hard. Upper Deck FX was a pain.  Do not understand why they did some set like they did.  Sets with base and autographs and jerseys all in one set.  Some picture like alike and others real diff.

Just finished verifing all my PC cards.  (8594)  Find I had a few doubles.   All most 4 weeks of work.   The diff between the list here and my excel file is 358 cards.  Next is to double check the 358 and add request here to add some sets.   Have a few odd ball sets that I only know of the Huskers in them.

I have now 2 back up flash drives.  Just need to keep them up dated all the time.
