Happy Anniversary. When I was 7 my cousins in Missouri gave me my first cards, 1969 Topps. It wasn’t until we moved to a bigger city in 1972 that I discovered the joy of opening packs of cards. I never received an allowance per se but my mom was good about letting me buy packs of all four sports. Bought my first factory set in 1975 and missed buying packs that year.

WELL i DISCOVERED cards in the summer of 1964 (PHILLIES COLLAPSE in last 2 weeks of season. Two teams would catch them Cardinals and Reds ) In 1965 I started to keep the cards from year to year and moved them to a different house 7 times.
I have most my pre 1980 back to 1952 Topps, 1955 Bowmans, Goudys, and about 200 Tobacco cards and assorted vintage cards in safe storage in a remote location in a Fire / Water proof safe, as I dont have much room here.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Cool anniversary, Chuck. I know you sent me some cool Pacers cards this year, and maybe that was part of your project. I know I appreciated them! Thanks for all you do here!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

How are doing with you're 2018 goals? Bob Gibson? Boxing?

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I don't remember the exact forum thread. For some reason I remember two goals you mentioned, "vintage Bob Gibson cards" and "getting a boxing card".
