I've picked up a couple sets of hydroplane racing cards from the early 90's and I'm wondering what category I'd upload the info to. My first thought was to add them to the "Racing" category since after all it is boat racing, but I was wondering how many people think of raciing as solely NASCAR related stuff. If not Racing, would they go into the Misc Sports category?

Personally i would think to look under Misc sports as "horse racing" is under that.
There are some other non nascar sets under racing but they are all "car" related.

I would vote for Racing since they have motors.

The Racing category is definitely NOT limited to NASCAR, or even auto racing. We've discussed this subject in the past, and I believe that we have a consensus agreement that the Racing category is appropriate for all forms of Motorsports. (Hence why horse racing and track & field would fall under Misc. Sports). Monster trucks, motorcross and hydroplanes are all appropriate subjects for the Racing category.

I totally agree with Tom on this. If it has a motor and races against other motors, it's in the Racing category. Hydroplane boats fit into the category easily.

Thanks for the input guys. I was leaning toward adding them to the Racing section, but living here in Alabama most folks don't realize there's any form of racing besides NASCAR. It's tough to find people to talk to if I want to talk about Indy Cars, Formula 1, sports car racing, etc. and I didn't know if that sentiment carried over to the card collecting world or not.

I can assure you that I'm always up for talking about any kind of racing. I think Tom might be too (on some levels) and I know that Billy Kingsley is. Kinda surprised Billy didn't reply in this thread.
I'm always having some conversations about NASCAR, IndyCar and Monster Trucks, but I also kind of follow F1, MotoCross, Continental Tire, RallyCross and Drifting competitions. I really found the Electric Car version of IndyCar/F1 very interesting when I saw it about a month ago. I forgot the actual name of it (but I've only seen 2 races and they were on the same day). I want to say it's called E-League, but not sure. It's quite interesting that a driver has to make a car change instead of a car making a driver change (like in 24 hour races). If you wanna talk racing things, feel free to PM me.

I didn't think I had anything to add since Tom covered it so succinctly.
The E-League is Electric cars. I don't think the car can handle a full race. I think they actually call it Forumla E but I am not totally sure. I've never actually caught one of their races; it's always on against something that I am watching, or a channel I don't think to check. I know they ran a street race in Manhattan of all places recently, one of my model club members went to it.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. That's IT. Formula E! I caught the final two races of the season and it was in Manhattan. I found it pretty interesting. The races happened to air on a Sunday after a Saturday night NASCAR race. It was either 7/08 or 7/15. I'm leaning towards the 8th in my mind.
Yes, they have to change cars b/c the battery power will not last the full race. The more interesting thing with those cars is that cautions don't help the cars like fuel mileage does for NASCAR and IndyCar, etc. It hurts them b/c they are still using battery power without momentum helping add power to the batteries. I'll certainly watch more Formula E races in the future if I know they are airing. There are some well-known drivers running in that series. Austin Dyne runs that series as well as RallyCross. I know he's not well-known to most, but I know who he is b/c he has NASCAR cards. I know you know who he is too. There was a former IndyCar driver racing there too. I forgot who all was in there that I had heard of right now b/c of time, but I knew of at least 3-4 drivers before they were in the Formula E Series.
The best thing about that series... a lot of NASCAR fans are calling for something similar to what they do without even knowing anything about Formula E. There is a big voice that NASCAR should issue equal cars to all teams. Formula E supplies all of the teams with their cars. After the season finale, all teams had to return their cars to the F-E so they could get the second generation cars to race next season. I do believe this season was the 4th of Formula E and they've been using the same cars since the beginning. Not the exact same cars, but cars with the exact same specs for every season. F-E has a more powerful car coming out for the next season. I really want to watch that.
