Is there any policy on what to do if you suspect a card listed in our db doesn't really exist? I've come across this numerous times and am not sure what, if anything, should be done about it. Here are a couple examples:
2018 Topps Opening Day Maple Leaf Parallel #184 Yangervis Solarte - I remember seeing notification about these cards that this exclusive partial parallel set, distributed only in Canadian Walmarts, were issued for all of the Toronto players. However, it appears that only the 4 Toronto players grouped together on the checklist, #105-108 exist and Solarte was not included. I never saw a specific checklist for these cards officially put out by Topps.
2004 Fleer Greats of the Game: There are numerous cards from this set that I don't believe exist, including: Autos- Rizzuto, Boggs, Carew (Twins), Cone, Molitor (Jays), Sanders, Seave (Reds), Yount. Yankee Clippings - Maris, Rizzuto. Forever Jerseys (all variations) - most of the cards that were packed as exchanges. This was at the time that Fleer went bankrupt. Collectors like me who had some high end exchange cards from this set got robbed in the bankruptcy deal with low end cards from any sport. I believe many of the exchange cards (like the Announcing Greats Dual Auto Kalas/Schmidt I submitted for redemption) were never produced. Unlike the Maple Leaf cards above, there was an official checklist advertised by the company, but still doubtful they exist.
Any thoughts how to address these cards in the db? Possiblly a note in Note 2? Maybe "DNE?" (does not exist?).

If they don't exist, they don't belong here.
Suspected that they don't exist is a different story, as there's still some doubt that they might exist.
With the rise of the Internet, there is very little out there (from major companies) that exists that we don't have some sort of proof of the existence of them.
In the meantime, submit IRs on the cards you feel don't exist. (And please submit one for each card on that card's page, that way, if the consensus is to delete it, we can easily do so.)

If there is a checklist, and the card was officially included on the checklist but not released, then I agree with adding in Note2. I recently noted a card like that, I belive it was a Bench Warmers set. But if the card was added erroneously and was never on an official checklist, then filing an IR to have it removed is the best option. If you can do research prior to filing the IR it would help greatly.

An example of this is the 1997-98 Pinnacle Be A Player set.
Card # 18 does not exist in any of the autographed versions.
Card # 1 only exists in the Prismatic version.
I was trying at one time to complete a Master set and upon research I found some information about the missing cards and through subsequent computer crashes I lost some of the information. I was able to find this link to an article that I included as a link for the set.
Beckett magazine use to post a have you see me section in their magazine and over the years it has been confirmed that some cards do not exist.
Maybe as we go along witht the site we can address some of these or maybe have a thread in the forum of the confirmed non existant cards.
Do not believe they should be listed here if they are confirmed to not exist.

I am 99% sure this card does not exist: https://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/27692/cid/3107026/2002-03-Topps-Xpectations---First-Shot-Relics-FS-SL-Steve-Logan?PageIndex=1
The set was released after it was clear he would not be signing with the Warriors, it would have been his only card ever made by Topps- he's not even in the base set, although other players who didn't crack an NBA roster ARE, and I can find no images of it or anyone who has it, anywhere, ever. I can find no records of any ever being sold on any of the platforms I am aware of. I also have doubts about him even attending the Rookie Photo Shoot where these jerseys were worn and where the photos from the set were taken, but I have no way to check and prove that either way.
I don't really know what more I am looking for in the way of confirmation.
However, I only really began to research it last year. I always liked that insert and I set out to complete it. With Logan, I hit a brick wall. I can't say for sure if I have it completed or not, but without his card, I think I do.
Someday I will find my checklists from that era...they were printed paper, not cards- and see if he appears on there.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. OK, stupid question..... How did a card that does not exist or reportedly doesn't exist get in our database in the 1st place? Could somebody actually submit a card that is totally fictional and get by all checking mechanisms and appear in the database? That's crazy!

It's pretty easy to enter a wrong card in a checklist and submit it. We constantly get cards with "NUM" in the number, "NAME" in the name, "TEAM" in the team, and NOTE in the note field that wind up having to be deleted. I'm really not sure what you're asking here. It's really not that crazy at all.

i don't think that its an individual doing wrong by submitting.. i think its a combination of the MFR publishing the CL with them being unable to produce the card and/or the card being a redemption and just so happens that limited turn ins were done and the rest expired which will never be claimed. then there are the CL that are published with the hopeful manufactured cards but never do get made.
you can only hope that there "is" a card out there -- and to expand on the fake entries.. well, let's just hope that no one is intentially adding cards with fake #'s and names for the hell of it or to correspond to thier file system.

My question is: Could I add a completely fictional card, that actually gets added to the database? Don't think that's crazy at all. I'm obviously not going to do that, I'm still trying to get cards that actually exist listed, lol.
But it is crazy if that could possibly happen.

The answer is yes. This happens. Hence the reason we have the ability to delete cards.
