At this point I only have 1 collection. I recently purchased a cheap ebay lot of about 1000 cards that cost me basically the cost of shipping. Many of thes ecards may become part of what I want to keep and some may become trade bait. I thought it might be fun to log these into a new collection so that when I get done I can see what I got in the purchase. Will I end up regretting doing that?

The basic question here is that since I am a guy that has only used a main collection I am looking for some tips on what might turn out to be good and what might turn out to be regrettable choices when creating more collections. Anyone have any tips based on their history here?

I broke out a separate collection for my tradelist, and one for each kind of error. I also broke out college cards which I don't want mingling with my real (professional) cards. I have ZERO regrets. And, you can always transfer set info from one collection to another. 

I haven’t added another collection yet but I think that’s sounds like a cool idea. You can always transfer them at a later date so I don’t see any harm in doing it. 

I didn't know how easy it would be to transfer and as someone who hasn't used the multiple collections feature I thought it might be good to have some discussion on how members have used the feature and their thoughts about it. Keep the info. coming but I'm thinking about trying it with these cards. It might be fun to see what my $12.75 including shipping netted me. I bought it more because the cards were mainly of years I was out of the hobby so I doubt I have many of them. Thanks again.

I currently have 11 collections going.  I have a main collection for my team collections and a few player collections and then I've also set up collections for a few players I collect but not in on the teams I collect. (I'm a Brewers and Packers collector with a smattering of Bucks and Blackhawks, but also collect Frank Thomas and Reggie Jackson so they get their own collections)  I've also set up collections for my set collections (Flagship Topps Baseball and Football, and others)  and I also have a couple quirky collections like my history and presidents collection.  Overall I like it, but you do have to remember to have the right collection picked when adding cards to it.

I think the use of multiple collections varies with HOW they are used.

so far I have just two and enjoy using it the way I am.

But keep in mind that when trading, the inbound cards you receive come to your main collection, and you would have to move somewhere else (if you want to)

Yeah, not everybody can be a Cowboys fan, but I agree on showing love to the collection of Mr. October.

As far as multiple collections, I was on the fence for awhile, and do regret it from the standpoint of the extra work it gives me. You really have to be on top of it to make sure you're in the right collection when either checking or updating what you have or want.

Changing a set listing from one collection to another is, I believe, two clicks. I have not done it in a while. The caveat is that you can only move EVERYTHING from one collection to another. Say you have 15 cards in Collection A. You then decide you want 10 in Collection B and 5 in Collection C. You can't do that. You would have to sent all 15 to a collection. You can send them back if you need to as well.

So in my case if I wanted to log them in a 2nd collection to just see what I got in the end and then afterward just move them to my collection that would be a pretty easy step? My goal is I just want to see what I netted and then would probably just move it over into my collection.
