Well I cleared a room that will become my card room. Trying to decide what needs to go in the room besides my collection?
Computer or leave in the office next to the card room?
Any ideas?

Nice clean slate to start with.
- Computer is a must
- Sorting table
- Shipping center/shelf for supplies
- Easy chair for needed breaks/thumbing through binders

Kari I am buying pre-1987 Non Sports. Let's discuss if you have any for sale, even if not listed here. --------------------------------------- There are no bad days.

From my experience living alone, you need a computer on a desk, a card table or similar for sorting, a chair on wheels, and a television if you will be spending a lot of time in there but can't miss ball games. Saves you from hauling boxes between rooms. My sorting table is one simple spin away from my computer desk.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

My Hobby Room in the basement has a good sized desk with room for my laptop plus a couple of monster boxes, so lots of space for sorting, packaging trades, etc.
For card shelves I have one of those stainless steel industrial-type ones from Home Depot. It easily holds the weight of all my boxes of cards. Cheaper plastic ones will start to buckle before too long, so don't skimp on shelves.
A rolling office chair is handy for moving between my desk and the card shelves. I also have a bookcase for my baseball books, magazines, a radio, and other knick-knacks.
I also have a glass Ikea display case for a few items like bobbleheads, figures, graded cards, etc.
I'd eventually like to display more stuff on the walls, like a couple of jerseys (Oleruds as well as my son's hockey jerseys) and posters. I'l also love to build/buy a wall display case for cards.

Oh yeah Olerud, my house came with wall-shelves for bobble heads and such, which is why that room was chosen as the card room. And the walls contain a framed replica of the Declaration of Independence, and pictures of Presidents Lincoln & Carter, plus VP Agnew.

You guys are all fancy with it.
I do everything from my basement man-cave/rec-room/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. I sit on a couch with a coffee table in front of me and my entertainment center sitting a few feet farther in front of me. My laptop is on the coffee table (along with the TV remote, phone, ink pen, marker and notepads) and I have some sorting room there too. I can sit boxes or albums beside me on the couch. I have a printer/scanner on a table to the left that I can pull closer to me when needed. All of my cards are located somewhere behind me by sport on bookshelves or in the big cabinet. The beer fridge is only about a dozen steps away, as are the 2 farthest bookshelves. While working with cards, I can sit comfortably for as long as a beer lasts without getting up!

You saw the pictures of my room I use for trades and sorting. The one thing I did not have in there at the time was a computer. I do now and it has made a huge difference; as one responder said, "just a chair spin away from his cards".
