My first indication that a player has died is from EBay. When I see more than the average number of a player, I check the In Memoriam section of this site to confirm my suspicsions. Don Newcombe and Frank Robinson are the most recent that come to mind.

Even on facebook card groups, people post them right after the persons last breath was taken and jacking up the prices.
