For some reason I got kind of overwhelmed with the hobby of few months ago and took a break. Haven't come to this site very often since then. I think I was getting frustrated with the issue of some names of sets being changed and making my physical card order no longer match the site. I sometimes let my OCD tendancies get out of hand with this hobby. I had planned on using Excel to document my collection in my own way, so that nothing would get mixed up without me knowing. But after doing that for a while, I realized it was too big of a project and I don't have time for it. I also worried about accidentally deleting things as the spreadsheet grew.
So I had to step back and evaluate what I want from documenting my cards in the first place. Basically, I came to the conclusion that I just want a place to have my cards listed so that when I get new cards, I can check whether I already have the card or not instead of having to physically pull the cards. That way i can just worry about puting them in their proper place in my boxes after marking them down and I already have the duplicates in their own place.
I realized that this site still serves that purpose well for me, and of course this site has always been a great resource for learning and talking about the hobby with the community anyways. So long story short, I plan on being more present on here again, and my focus for now will just be going through my collection and making sure it matches my collection here. That should take much less time than manually typing every card in Excel.

Welcome back!
I had once created a database in access, as I can't stand spreadsheets, that I used for my collection. I started databasing my cards which I had placed in binders. I could run reports on what binders had what cards, full reports on players and where there cards were located and team reports. Eventually I found this place and was much happier here. The only thing my database had better was flexibility with reports. There was tons coding I did on my own that is now gone but that's ok, this place is still better. Plus the computer that the database was on has now gone to the great coding gods in the sky.

yes a great source to keep and see an inventory and to print it out as well -- BUT -- you can still maintain your collection here and in excel too.
once you have your all your collection listed here, you can filter for HAVES , and if you're good with excel >>> then copy the list off of each web page and Paste into excel, from there, its little tedious. But by using the concatenate (and maybe adding a symbol to filter), Find/Replace function with a little filtering and tweeking here and there, you can have your collection copied over

Welcome back. We all need to make the site be for our use and not vice versa. Keeping that in mind, it is still the best site for collectors.
I refuse to reorganize my collection to conform with the set naming conventions here. Ultra and Flair are with my Fleer cards before the Leaf cards of he same year. And Post cards are in my Post binder whether they be 1962 or 2002. Topps Post, sheesh! Whoever heard of such a thing.

I'm still doing a full audit of my collection, after that 2-3 week period where my phone was incompatible with this site but I still tried using it. I've found that the best way to do this was to put the cards in the exact order they appear on the site in the All Collections > Sets. Before that, I sorted in my own order (Stadium Club in Topps box or whatever). I'll probably leave them this way, except the 70% - 100% sets that go into albums. And by the way, I'm glad I'm doing this, because I have found errors.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Happy to see you're back Shannon. It's kinda funny - I was just thinking the other day while reading through some forums (maybe it was the favorite player one) that I was wondering where you had gotten off to!
I'm still working on getting my collection uploaded here in general. Then I think the next step will be to order some monster boxes, and as I'm putting everything away (likely sorted by team, then age, then set [and like others, Upper Deck Collector's Choice comes after Upper Deck, Fleer Ultra after Fleer; personal preference]) I'll probably reconcile with my data listed here and utilize the method many others have been - leaving the main collection empty and moving my cards to other collections.
Ultimately, what works for me doesn't work for anyone else, but I really just want all of my cards listed here - I can figure out the site order later!

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

I will forever miss the Card Collector Program but this site sure has become addicting. I'm on here way more than a productive human should be. I still use it mainly for collecting Blackhawks cards and some other things I'm chasing but my massive personal collection still sits in boxes waiting to be added to the DB. It was all perfectly in The Card Collector program until those bastards at Beckett killed it. Then I got every card with Beckettvalue of less than $1.00 stolen from my temporary storage locker. So now I'm just EFFED. Any way welcome back.

Always looking for Blackhawk hockey, Notre Dame Football, White Sox and Bears Stuff. I have a plaque in my card room that says, "I could have been a millionaire but my mom threw out my baseball cards". How apropos!!! Collecting Chicago Blackhawks Hockey, Doug Wilson Hockey, Chicago Bears Older, Notre Dame Football in their college jerseys and Chicago White Sox.
