I am in a major re-organization of my collection. I have many 5000 ct boxes with misc cards.
I am running out of table space. Who am I kidding i ran out of table space and desk space and only been through two boxes so far.
I am seperating by sets. Any suggestions?
Wanting to seperate by set so that I can put in order to post in my tradelist here.
Only working on hockey so far.
UGH
Anyone have a lighter LOL

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

One suggestion. Don't bump the table. Hope that helps.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I haven't tried this myself but maybe you could organize one box at a time and create a collection for each box. Once done you could then combine the sets from each box. Still a lot of work but maybe less cards laying around during the process?

I have done similar sorts for magic cards in the past one making grab bags usually I new which sets would have much less cards so I would put those in 400 to 600 count boxes and once one of those dominated one of those boxes I would split them out to a table spot.
In case for sports cards I would split them year in the smaller boxes if you have enough of them and then used top-loaders with post-it note sticking out to separate individual sets. as far as documenting what you have this also makes it easier because once you move a set out of a small box that's when you document all the entire set at once, possibly putting a top loader on top of the set to tell what you have documented and what you haven't

Use the lids from 5000 ct boxes, then you can stack them.

I have a few misc boxes like this, where I like to put the brand together, with multiple years....then next time I go through that brand to pull cards, I stack the particular years together and end up sorting better each time I go throug them..

Your collection seems scattered, like mine is/was. My method is to only sort out cards from sets you have a lot of, enter them to TCDB, then sort them into your boxes. Then do your inserts or anything else you have fewer than 10 of. Finish one box before you start the next. I put them in boxes in the order they appear in my collection on the site, so I always know exactly where to look. Once I finish, I will rearrange to the order I want them in. But that was my mistake originally; I was putting them in the order I want them in, and couldn't find anything. Now I know to leave customizing for after the job is done.
Also, what Chuck said.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
