There was PowerDeck, which was a CD-ROM in card shape (you have to put it in your computer to view it).
There was another card that was lenticular that had like 5 or 10 seconds worth of images that when the tilt changed you saw what looked like a video. It, too, was from the late 90s or early 2000s. If I find it, I'll post it.

Interesting thoughts. I am guessing that it wasn't needed until competition is the most likely outcome.
Dan, were any of those autographs NBA sets?
I actually don't mind sticker autographs. I'm one of the few, I know. Redemptions...especially those that expire...that's just torture. I once pulled a redemption the day after it expired.
Panini's HRX in 2012-13 Totally Certified apparently had a video clip. It must have been too expensive because they were super rare and they never did it again- the next year they did HRX it was a QR code and inserted one per pack...by time I got a smart phone the QR codes didn't lead anywhere.

VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards. I hope not 30 year old corroded batteries are going way worse on the cards than a stick of petrified gum.

Star Co autos were only single-player baseball sets. None of the 1980s NBA team sets were issued autographed. I don't remember us doing any NBA autos ever (but that doesn't mean we didn't, I just don't remember it). I think we did single cards to be autographed in 1992 or 1993. That MAY have included NBA players.

That video technology already exists. Several Years ago GM ran an ad for the then-new Colorado in Popular Mechanics. The ad included an LCD screen with menu buttons to select from several different videos. The Technology was created by a company called Americhip. It seemed like the newspapers in Hary Potter, seeing the video clip in a print ad. Granted the page was thick, but not as thick as some of today's memorabilia cards.

I don't mind cut autos, since that is the only way to get a dead person's autograph on a card. I dont mind the stickers either, since I dont really care if the signer touched the card. I get the point about the sticker being too small though. I guess I dont examine the autograph close enough to notice it on my cards.
I dont imagine there are too many more things left to do with a card, in its standard size. The kiss cards for the WWE girl wrestlers are the best innovation in a while. I dont have any though. Maybe hockey players teeth that get knocked out could go on a card?

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Oh that's just gross. I know the teeth was too, but that's not going to happen. Yours is apparently a real thing. Gross.
