I certainly agree that there are too many categories here, and would be all for combining Oddball, Food Issue, and perhaps even the horribly abused Promo category. Why should a prize in a box of cereal, for example, be classified differently than a prize in a package of batteries?

Ditto for "Team Set" vs. "Team Issue".

Ok, we've established that stuff needs to happen. I can comb through all the sets, but my next question is..

Can we have one parent set for each year, ex. And list additional sets as 'inserts'

I think - own category.

In the Racing section, we've done something similar with the cards that came with die-cast cars.  If the brand (e.g. Racing Champions) has a mainline annual release, the cards that came in those packages are the 'base' set for the year.  Then, other lines (Store Exclusives, Premium sets, other scales, etc.) are listed as "Related" sets (you know, the 'other' half of the "Inserts & Related Sets" classification).

1998 Racing Champions is a good example of one of these brands that has a good assortment of related sets.

As a Wayne Gretzky collector, I love the SLU figures and especially the cards.  I, like many of you choose to refer to them by the year produced, their manufacturer name (eg. Upper Deck) and then SLU.  Wayne only had cards issued for his base figures in the late 90's... but had his combo issues with Messier and Fuhr had cards... I certainly would have denoted that in the title as well as I did with his one Convention release from the National.  As for categorization of these cards... I have them listed as "Toy Issue" on my master list... but store them with my "Major Release" cards as they all resemble the Upper Deck, Collector's Choice, etc. from the day and I think they look cool together.  I suppose they could all fall into the all encompassing "Oddball"... but I like to do my best to denote how they were obtained at the time of release.  Thanks for entertaining my thoughts and keep up the informative posts.
