I was looking at the 2019 Topps Archive Signature Series boxes and was thinking about buying one or two. Seeing as they only have one card in them even though it is a guaranteed hit, is it worth it? Is the chance great enough that you will get something worthwhile to spend $35 on one card?
What are your thoughts?

I guess what are you hoping for and what do you want to do with what you get? I might be an old fuddy duddy but I don't think any new stuff is "worth it" if you are talking about if I spend my money will I get back what I paid for it or more. Personally, I could find other cards I would rather spend $35 on but it comes down to how do you like to spend your money?

$35 sounds like a bargain compared to what a similar product sold for in hockey last year. Upper Deck Splendor was one card per box and retailed for $250, and not all cards were signed or even jersey cards. I wanted the Mike Bossy card and won it on ebay for $30. Most cards on the secondary market were selling for between $50 and $200, and I never saw *anything* priced at more than $500.
If I collected baseball cards I would probably gamble on a few boxes at $35. Obviously I didn't open any of the hockey product.

My thoughts EXACTLY !!!!!!. I few years ago, I would have done it in a second. I am now on a " 5 year plan" and these type of purchases dont fit the budget.
I am also trying REAL HARD just to stick to Phillies, Yankees and GQ.

No. If every box has one card and every card is a "hit" then by definition every card is a common. There's no scarcity, no odds of getting a "hit". Which is what normally makes a "hit" more valuable...its scarcity.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I think I am hesitant because of the fact that I only collect Yankees cards so I already only have a 1 in 30 chance of getting the team I want. That topped with the chance of getting say a Jared Walsh sig vs a Mike Trout that I could actually turn around for a good number of Yankees cards.
Perhaps the eBay hunt is the way to go, at least that way I can know what I am bidding on without the gamble.

If I was focusing on Yankees I would spend my money knowing I was getting a Yankee card. It will probably cost a lot more to take a chance and then try to flip a non Yankee for a Yankee you want.

I recently acquired 2 cards I wanted from a new release for $35 shipping included and believe it or not I am happy with that. I can buy a sealed box at a cost of about $1/card so it is not on the same $ level as what set you are looking at but still I cannot see getting 2 keepers (one was a 1/1,other 1/10) out of 35. I know I could sell off the unwanted but I don't care to. I would say you are leaning towards the best option of knowing what you will get.

sometimes you end up spending more than you want on a box, especially if you are only searching for a certain player or team than you would just waiting for someone to sell it. i can't tell you the amount of times i spent a couple hundred dollars on a hobby box of 5 cards and get absolutely nothing, nothing even worth selling. but every now and then you score the big one.. same as playing the lotto . like i said, sometimes its better to wait for someone to sell what your looking and you may get it cheaper too
