My wife and I have been thinking about possibly selling our home in the future and looking for a different house. Admittedly though, I am incredibly indecisive. If it happens, it probably won't happen for a while.
This got me thinking though. If I ever do move, any tips on how to safely move a card collection? I have all my cards that I own in 3200 count BCW Full Lid boxes. Does anyone know of maybe any type of plastic bins that can fit them?
I looked one time at Home Depot and Costco before I got my wire shelves, but none seemed to be big enough near the bottom. They all seemed to get narrower as it went down and looked like it would be a lot of wasted space.
I was thinking I could maybe wrap the boxes in some sort of plastic so they stay secure?
I am curious as to what others have done or might do.

Hi Shannon,
I am also moving eventually and I went an measured my boxes LxWxH (I use a the BCW small vault boxes) and did quick calculations for what size that was for 3x3 stacking 2x3 etc and kept that in my car for when I am at Lowes or HD. I found some Hefty containers that had straighter sides that met my needs. I also found that putting an 1/2 to 1 of hard foam in hte bottom lifted the cards to where more boxes fit as the actual bottom pinched a little when I stacked 3x3. Still a work in progress, but haveing the measurements with me helps a lot. So does carrying a tape measure to get the inside dimensions. I am going with more medium containers than really large ones, because I have to eventually be able to lift it myself.
Good luck, Greg

I used a combination of plastic totes and cardboard boxes when I moved this spring. I even put some 800 ct boxes in an empty clothes hamper, quite an eye roll from the Mrs on that one..
What solved most of my worries about the cards during my move was.....I set aside a stack of higher value boxes/binders, and moved those myself in back of car, and only I handed them, so I knew where they were at all times

Just thought I would give an update on this for anyone curious. We actually have decided to move and I was able to find some bins at Walmart that fit 3200 count boxes quite well. I found them in the outdoor storage bins section. I think the brand was Tuff1. They fit 3 boxes stacked in each. Have all my cards in the 2 bins at home ready to go.
I have been very busy this year so far and I haven't been very active here recently. We just sold my wife's 1st house where her mother lived and helped her purchase a new home for herself in January. I'm hoping to be completely settled again by the Summer. In the process of sellling my home, then need to move to an apartment and wait for our new house.
So I will probably keep the hobby on hold for bit since all my cards are safely packed up. However I'm sure I won't be able to resist getting some 2020 Topps next time I'm at Target.

Keeping them in boxes is great. I have moved my collection several times and the biggest issue I have had is I have lost some cards to damage for sets I had in sheets and binders. The cards tend to move up in the pockets on the top row if they aren't handled carefully enough. I am moving more of my collection out of sheets and binders and into card storage boxes. I kind of hate that because I like displaying them but I feel they are much safer in the box.

Let's see, How much per bin? I'd probably need $1000 in bins and a separate moving co. Guess I'm not going anywhere, wifey doesn't want to move anyway. Pooh, I was hoping for a nice 55+, and no work but my cards. lol.

We moved from Colorado to Arizona (and then back Colorado)..
Had my sets in the appropriate size boxes (800, 600, etc.) and then in plastic bins..
My doubles were in 5,000 count boxes and everything survived fine incuding sitting in a U Haul in 110 degree heat for a few days..
And being manhandled by family members moving boxes..

Whenever I have moved I just wrap my 5000-ct boxes with plastic wrap and I put smaller boxes and binders in to paper boxes and I have never had a problem. I loaded them in to my car, I never let a moving company load them on to their truck.

In 1998 me and Mrs at that time moved and I hired a moving company. The rep recommended that I pack cards myself to save time and avoid possible damage and claim. We put binders in plastic mike cases lined with card board put in a small moving box labeled and sprayed painter with a spot of RED so moving crew knew RED was a certain area of new house
Each room had a color

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

I've recently moved myself and the way I did it was by transporting my cards in the boxes in my suv by themselves. They didn't come out of my truck until I had my little area set up on where they were going to go.
