Ok, so when do you decide I card doesn't exist and you stop looking for it.

Here is an example; 2006 Bazooka - Rewind Relics #BR-KT Kevin Thompson MEM.

I have been looking for this card for almost 15 years and have never ever seen one. It is rumored, that is does not exist. So, when do you give up, or when is it decided (by the hobby in general) that a card does not exist and should be removed from a checklist. I'd like to hear what everyone has to say. Thanks.

Never. I've pulled cards myself out of factory sealed boxes that "don't exist". However...

There's a card that I am pretty sure doesn't exist in 2002-03 Topps Xpectations First Shot...it's keeping me from considering the set complete. I didn't realize how hard it would be to find this card until I chose that set to be the one memorabilia set I completed...I have been able to find zero record of it ever existing except on the checklist...and it would have been the only card of the player ever produced by Topps...I suspect it was pulled after it became known that he was going to refuse to sign with the team. 

I'm never going to stop looking for it though. It may be out there and extremely short printed, who knows? I don't...Being a player that never actually played in the NBA, it's possible the people that have that card all think it's not worth trying to sell it, or just threw it in a box and forgot about it. Unlikely, but since I can't rule it out...I don't. 

I'm in the same boat with several Scott Rolen cards. I've seen them listed on several different checklists, yet I've never seen them for sale on any of the popular sites or at any card shops/shows. Some of the ones I've been chasing are well over 15 years old already.

For me, personally, I'll never completely give up the chase. I'm holding onto hope that they are sitting in unopened packs in completely gem mint condition just waiting to be liberated by a collector busting old boxes for a Throwback Thursday YouTube video.

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should restart my search for the few 1998 Flair Showcase Row 0's that I need. The majority of them are numbered out of 250 and I need the Jeter as one of them. They're 22 years old now. I only need two Row 1's for that set (33 Walker, 39 Lofton). Sigh.......

Never   They will stay on my want list just like the printing plates and 1/1s  Which I will never get.

It take over 25 years to get one card.

I ask myself same question (philosophically) about 1/1's like printing plates, etc. Are they ever pulled - I assume eventually they are, but what box/case runs do they go in and is one in a box in some retail shelf in some random store somewhere in the world never to be pulled except by some kid who doesn't know what it is and chucks it ? :)

I am almost 100% certain that Topps did not make a certain Ryan Bader card that was a redemption card. The 2012 Topps UFC Finest Fight Sponsor insert contains 10 cards but only 3 fighter's cards (I believe they were packed out) have shown up over the past 7 years. These are cards that are a manufactured patch that was to be signed by the fighter and they are SN50, not exactly a tough find so it isn't like the missing 350 cards are hidden away in collections.

I believe that Topps waited to see how many redemptions were submitted and didn't make the cards if not enough cards were redeemed. It is a bummer that they only released 30% of the cards.But I still have it listed on my wants list and have my eBay search set to email me when new cards from the set show up.

Long ago when I was a wee pup, I was convinced that a particular card wasn't actually real. I talked to my local hobby shop owner (when they were more than just a quick turn over shop and the owner tried to get the kids into the hobby) One of the most valuable ideas that he gave me/explained to me is that often times cards get into 'local areas' and they are most often being traded between collectors hand to hand. Now, this was before the interwebz so when I took a trip to boston and did a couple of tours around hobby shops there...the mysterious red sox cards that I was convinced did not exist did in fact exist.

Probably never.  I've been looking for a 2003 Topps Gold Sammy Knight (Football), and a 2011 Topps Bowman Target Grey Mark Ingram forever.  I've never seen a picture or heard of one for sale, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.
