I don't think I'd announce that I had 10,000 for fear of hurting my sales. But the fact that you can get a haircut and a baseball card in the same shop got me wondering about other combo stores you've seen. I remember visiting a grill/card shop that sold fried bologna sandwiches back in the 80s.

Cool idea......one of the card shops when I was growing up had a radar gun (like at the carnivals) and you could see how fast/hard you could throw.  Owner made a good profit off it as he would let you throw 3 balls for 50 cards too!

I love how stories put things like this also....

"A mint condition Sosa rookie card is valued at as much as $175, with those in slightly worse condition valued at $40"

and they show stacks of 1990 Topps Sosa's......if you are getting $100 for those, let me know!  Heck!  if you are getting $10 for those....LET ME KNOW! :)

With that many mint cards out there the price of them is going to drop.

That news video also shows you that cards were overprinted. A red flag to have that many in one place.

$175 for a Sosa RC? At that price, you can get mines right away and I'll give you the rest of the set for free.

All of my local card shops just sold cards and comics, which go together like air and breathing. 

A story related to fried baloney. Back in 2008 I went to a scale model show on Long Island. My fellow club members offered to take me to a restaurant with them but I declined because a year before they had s great food vender. Well, I should have checked, because that food vendor was not there that year. I had to try and find someone to work the grill, (they have a cafeteria built in) I tried to get a hot dog. Well, that was a debacle. The guy behind the counter couldn't figure out how to work the grill,so I ended up with a "hot" dog that was mostly cold but was lukewarm only where it was making surface contact with the grill. To add insult, they couldn't find any buns, so I had to eat it on white bread, which is just wrong. It was, without a doubt, the worst meal I've ever had. When I was in the hospital the food was better, seriously. I was in a bind, there was nothing else to eat there, and I had gotten a ride with friends...the same club members who offered to take me with them. It was either eat that or nothing. So I did... regretfully. But! I discovered that cold hot dog tastes just like baloney. For the past 12 years it's been a topic, and I've always said that since cold hot dog just tastes like baloney, warm baloney must taste like flat hot dog. Finally, in 2020, I did what I had been joking about for the past dozen years, and I microwaved a baloney sandwich. As it turns out, it did not taste like hot dog, it was it's own unique taste. It actually wasn't bad, but I haven't done it since either. I could see doing it in the future, maybe with some provolone or mozzarella slices. I didn't fry it, that might change the taste further, I don't know.

I never went back to that model show, although not related to the food. My brother and I did go to a different model show there last year, but went to Subway instead. The convention center holds three different model shows, so I have many opportunities to go there...we will be sticking with Subway though. 

This is all 100% true. It's been a constant joke in my family since November 2008. 

When I was a kid our local card shop was run out of the back of a paint store.  I don't think he offered any combo deals though. 

I remember a video store and card shop combo and a Restaurant where you sit down and a card shop so you can shop for cards while waiting on your meal to arrive

I've been to Doug's Sports Cuts like a year ago. He really doesn't have much of a card shop there anymore. Just a few boxes of low end football and baseball cards and some singles. But back in the 90s that was the place to get cards in this area.
