Can someone explain Topps Bunt to me? I get that these are virtual cards but is there actual value to them? I see folks sell them on ebay and just don't get the process. I have coupons for some free Bunt packs but don't know if I should redeem them or trade them or throw them out. So please educate me.

I've heard of people throwing some cash at them. Think how people are selling them is they trade the card they are selling to the buyer for perhaps a common card. The buyer has to have the ap installed on their phone, and has to send the seller their Topps Bunt user ID.
My son has the Topps Star Wars, and Topps Walking Dead aps on his phone. I've looked at what he has, and it's full of parallels and limited edition cards that only run for one day. He hasn't spent any real money on it, and gets free packs every so many hours and/or coins to purchase virtual packs in game.
I guess it's alright, but seems pointless since they aren't redeemable for actual physical cards. Collecting pixels is all it is to me. Actually seems a bit stupid when you really think about it, they could shut it down at any time and the "make believe" collection could be gone. I like having stuff I can touch.
Can't say it's not a great idea from Topps end though, no cards to print, or product to package or ship. Mostly profit I'm sure.

I have heard of single cards selling for near a hundred dollars. Crazy to me. I never got into it but I know some people spend loads of cash on it. There are lots of competitions to complete certain sets. At least early on there was kind of a fantasy baseball aspect to it where you got points based on the players in your lineup for a certain day. Not sure whether that is still the case or not.
As with most apps, people find ways to beat the system. I know people who figured out how to set up hundreds of accounts to get the free coins and then trade all good cards to a single account or sell them.

I would like the site to reflect that I have 610,028 baseball cards in my e-collection -- the total number of baseball cards with images on this site.
I also offer to trade half a million of those cards for one mere cardboard version of a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. I'd also trade, oh, 100,000 of my e-cards for a Nolan Ryan rookie.
Takers?

hmmmm?? I didn't realize there was a market for digital cards. I guess NJDevil wasn't kidding. Maybe I should start selling the scans of my cards on ebay. And I could add a digital imprint to them and make them rare 1/1 "C2Cigars Edition". In the immortal words of P.T. Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Upper Deck has a virtual card app for hockey. One thing it has over BUNT is that if you collect 10 copies of a virtual card, you can enchange them through COMC.com for the actual physical copy.

The craziest thing about it to me is you are relying on their servers to hold up. I know as I've played other apps where there is a card component, (9 innings baseball or Madden football for example) the company servers can't be trusted. I've lost cards in transit or because of server issues.Maybe Topps Bunt is better but I just look at it and say what are the chances the app still exists in 5 years.

I need that Hostetler card for my e-PC. How much do you want for it?
On topic though, I could see myself getting hooked on bunt for the thrill of ripping packs. I seldom take time to flip through most of the cards I already own (all physical), so having them stored in an electronic repository rather than cosuming space in my house seems appealing. I can't imagine spending money on it though, unless there's an exchange/redemption option like the hockey one Kep75 mentioned.

I have the app. Its a fun little time waster. I haven't spent a dime on it though. I also have the Topps apps for football, soccer, and star wars, and the Panini apps for football and basketball. Just something to pass the time. I could see where it could be a good way to introduce kids to the hobby, since shops and shows have dwindled in numbers. Kid might see a pack, recognize that they look like the virtual cards, and buy the real thing. Soon they're hooked like all of us!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I also use Bunt.. it's good as a freebie in terms of the fun of opening packs, but like any freemium game, to really succeed you gotta pay. Thanks, but no. I will just play for free with the bottom feeders. If I am going to pay for a relic or a sig, I better be able hold it, throw it in a top loader or acrylic and sort it by hand.
