Can anyone help me to determine how much a card is going to be worth after it comes back from being graded and/or authenticated?

many people here are for the collectinng aspect and not pricing. as far as worth- it basically comes down to what someone is willing pay for it-- personal worth. Beckett is a good guide for putting a value on an item, but in the end, if someone sells a 15cent card on ebay and get $10 for it, thats not a real good actual view on it..is it?
you can always go on ebay (or other sites) and scan the current for sale items and sold items, to see what others are going for or have sold for to give you an idea, but like i said, it comes down to what someone is willing to pay for it. you can always take it into your local card shop too and get an idea from them as well.

The price guide on psacard.com gives some broad price ranges. I presume these are based on historical ebay sale data, but how many sales and over what time interval is not specified.

Short answer: no.
Long answer: depends on the variables.
Is there any actual demand for the card? A card no one cares about isn't going to turn to gold just because it is encased in plastic.
What did it grade? For modern cards, an 8 or less basically gets no bump above a raw card unless it is a card or set that is highly prone to condition issues or centering.
What is the graded population? If there are 500+ copies of the same card in the same grade, it won't be worth anywhere near as much as a card with a very low graded population.
Which grading or authentication company is it? About the only ones that anyone respects (that being a relative term) are PSA/JSA, Beckett (BGS or BVG is preferred to BCCG) and SGC. KSA is the Canadian company that tends to grade the most hockey and other Canadian cards, but any grader that is not one of those four is basically worthless in the eyes of the hobby at large.

Ok again ty everyone.
the reason I'm asking is because I want to start sending my Thurman Thomas cards that are RC, Autographed, And some serial #'d cards out to be graded.
I was asking so I can try to determine their worth after I get them back, believe me I'm not selling them, I just want to put down on paper how much they are worth now so when I'm gone maybe they can help my grand kids or great grand kids through college or something.
again thank you guys.

It sounds like you missed out on the hobby during the late '80s / early '90s. Cards make for the worst investments. Chances are, whoever you donate your cards to in the future will try to sell them all at once for a deeply discounted price. No one is going to respect your collection like you. Why not determine what they're worth right now without a slab? Or, don't even worry about the worth at all, because chances are, the worth will change many times by the time your great, great grandchildren even get the cards--if they get the cards. Save your money, invest in stocks, or just buy more cards.

Amen to that. I hear that in so many circles of stuff I collect, like die-cast, Star Wars, and just about any collectible. People trying to justify their hoarding of said stuff as an investment for their kids.
The kids don't care, it means nothing to them in more cases than not. What can I get for that? I want some new i-phone, video game system, or whatever they wish to blow the money on at that moment, and an education is not in their sights.
If I were you, spend that money on more cards. Unless it's something very hard to find, you can probably find some of the cards you want graded for less than what it will cost you to get it done yourself already graded. That's what I do, though I'll take a 7 in heartbeat, hard to tell much difference once it's in the case.

The way I've always looked at this topic is this:
Grading is completely useless if it's something you never plan to get rid of OR if it's a modern-era card (1980-present). You are wasting money that could go towards more cards for your collection. Authentication should only be used for cards that are known to have counterfeits or could easily be counterfeited (especially AU's). The value for graded vs. raw cards really only changes for vintage cards and that's mostly the really old ones or highly popular cards from the 50's-70's. Cards with very-low SN's won't gain any real resell value either b/c there aren't many of them in the first place. A 1/1 with a 10 grade won't bring much more than a 1/1 with a 7 grade b/c there is only ONE card in the first place.
Even just slabbing a card is pointless these days b/c you can protect them just as easily now and do it for much cheaper.
My final note about your post is about how you look at your collection. YOU love these cards! Your children and children's children are not likely to care about them, besides the cash they can get for them. My mindset since I was a teenager has been that this hobby is also my back-up retirement fund. If I need more money after I retire, the cards will be there for that. I completely understand that the best I can hope for is about 1/3rd of the book value of the entire collection. I have enjoyed my collection since it started 30 years ago when I was a child and still love collecting now. I will keep adding to my collection as long as possible and will continue to enjoy it. I know I can't keep them forever or take them with me when I checkout. My collection is very diverse and would appeal to much more than just specific player collectors, team collectors, sports collectors or non-sports collectors. The whole collection would be easy to sell to a card shop. Even if I still have them when I cease to exist, there's more than enough here to cover all final expenses.
Just enjoy your collection as long as you can and don't really worry about what happens to it after it's not yours anymore!

Sound advice...I collect for the absolute pure enjoyment, it also takes me back to when I started collecting, 1975 to be exact. My Dad would give me my weekly allowance...$1.00...and I would run down to the Westwood Five & Dime (Northern California) and buy 9 packs of 1975 Topps baseball and one piece of rope gum, usually the green...only came in red and green and I hate red...My brother and I put only one set together and that was 1979...We mowed lawns to make more money and then we went to Herlong Family Market and bought the 1979 Topps baseball..We must have put together at least 2 or 3 sets...For me, the memories that it brings me back to are priceless, there isn't a guide in this hobby that can put enough of a price tag on my collection for me...My memories are what drives me in this hobby...With that being said, I miss my brother and I think I'll go make a phone call...Have a great day collectors...
