I didn't realize that the Star Company Shop At Home basketball counterfeits had company because Upper Deck got busted for counterfeiting non-sports cards that were sold in Toys R Us, KMart and Walmart. Makes me wonder what Upper Deck got away with counterfeiting up until these?

Makes me wonder about their "authenicated" game-used memorabilia. Much easier to a cut-up a jersey and claim it was used by a superstar.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I had heard about this case a while back. Thanks for posting the link, that's a great article. It spells out a lot more of the details of what actually happened than I had ever heard before, and answered a lot of questions I had. For example, I didn't realize that Upper Deck was only distributing the cards (the real ones) and not making them.
Interesting defence, though. "We didn't charge people for them, we just packed them in with stale product so that it would sell."

Interesting read. Hate that Michael Jordan is still exclusive to their product. Thanks for posting this!

As much as I have come to dislike UD, glad he is with them myself, better than Panini getting him. Now if Topps did, that would be cool.

Great article, thanks for sharing. I always wondered what happened to UD's MLB license.

Now that McWilliam is dead, I doubt we'll see a repeat of their past transgressions. All their issues with reprinting, counterfeiting (Pokemon cards) and questionable autographs were due to him and his greed. But they have a deep hole to dig out of.
