I agree with Young Kilo. I stopped paying attention to Beckett a while ago also. However, I do use them for grading. As far as a cards worth goes, I am a firm believer that anything is worth what you last payed for it. That includes cars, homes, or anything you put up for sale or buy from a garage sale. The simple law of supply and demand works for anything and everthing you can think of. What happenned to COMC is a shame. But, I think they will be better off in the long run.

Getting back to
Vroomed's first
question about
sharing data. Why
not share card data
only, no prices.
These cards are in
the public domain
and we, the users,
submitted the data
on this site. I do
not see COMC as
competition, but
rather another site
card collectors can
access.

WOW! After reading this I went there to see and ....WOW! What a cluster....you-know-what! I have bought some cards from them a couple years ago to last year and was satisfied with my purchases. Its a shame that this happens to places like this that we (collectors) use as a reference/resource. Hope they can get their schtuff together soon as I was eyeing some cards there to purchase!

As one of the articles I read online states, COMC is the second leading seller of cards in the world next to eBay. And they are clearly onto something, because, let's face it, shipping fees are killer on eBay. As a matter of fact, when they get their act together again, I think they should get into the business of selling "commons" too- they don't need to show scans for them individually, just say what's available- at maybe 15-20 cents each.

Redsfan, Good idea. Just sharing the card data is more than fair. Besides, I don't know how good Beckett is with baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and racing, with soccer, their database is horribly inaccurate. They listed insert sets under wrong years, and under wrong sets. That's if they have the set in their database at all.

I was just curious if anyone has been back to their site or using them again lately. I have bought a couple cards, but don't go there as often. Hopefully in the fall everything will be back to a point that sellers will have better sales and all the holes will be filled in on some of the inaccuracies and blank data. I must say though they have done a great job in a short time.

I still check them at least daily to see if any new stuff has popped up of the players I collect. I also browse the sales and come up with some nice stuff for decent prices.
The one thing I love the most about them is the flat shipping fee no metter how many cards from whichever sources. And, sometimes, you even get to haggle on prices. I'm sure a few people on there hate seeing my ID pop in their offers, but.... every penny counts. Helpful hint, if you offer 1 cent, the system will tell you the lowest offer they will entertain. Not necessarily accept, but let through. Then, you can start at the lowest offer, and work your way through till you get it at the lowest price!
Enjoy!

I figure I'll exhaust my card store here in town before I take on BMC. They don't offer what I scavenge E Bay for and the card store I go to ... Loves me... because I don't haggle? Man, vroomed, I respect your dedication to the best price possible. I am too lazy and impatient for that. I'd probably just give the asking price off the hop.

Thanks for that tip vroomed. Now that I am back on the net a little more regulary (which also means I can scan cards again soon), I am buying a few more cards here and there. That hint about the 1 cent offer really helps since there are a few that I have on my want list that I would buy if they were just a few cents cheaper.
