Thank you bkim for the cards. Minor League cards are always nice to come by, especially when I can say I got some Chicks in the mail. :)

Shawn,
I don't think you replied to this thread in any wrong way. You asked a legit question that I am sure many collectors who come from other sites that are not so friendly, probably ask themselves the same question...till they see how many members and for how long this has been going on here at TCDB. From C2's answer (and C2 is by far the MOST generous individual on this site, bar none),there are many. And these are those who identified themselves by in this thread.
One member tried to use humour in response, maybe not approprite in that he may not know you and how you would receive it. Here, most of the members accept the humour as TCDB is a very friendly site (for the most part). Yes there are a few as you describe but in what lot in life aren't there? That particular member I suspect you took offense of is one of those who contributes to the site much of his time here so I ask that you excuse the attempt in humour. I am sure he meant no offense.
As for the use of Ebay or Beckett prices to evaluate trades, I use neither (hate both) so we would disagree on that issue. But to each his own. I don't mind if you use Beckett to help build what you believe is a fair trade; I will hate it if you tell me that according to Beckett, the value is equal on both sides of the ledger. For as long as I have collected, I cringed when looking to buy cards, the first thing a store owner would do is pull out his Becketts guide to price things. The stores I liked were those who had fair priices already marked and even gave you a better discount if you bought quantity. There is much more than any Price Guide values that should be considered in a trade. But I believe you already know this as well if you are a collector with experience.
From what I see, no harm done here. Do like most of us and enjoy the site and what it offers to real collectors. Most of us fall in that category so I think you will enjoy it; There are a few who aren't but they tend to fall silent after being here a while, just like many of those who joined the hobby in the early 90s.

Yes I agree with Sandy and I too wondered how many past cards on.
I have been known to trade oh 10 cards for 12 cards and then I throw in a bunch of commons they need. I have sent a starter lot because someone who collects wanted to start building a set. Most the cards I only paid a avg of 2 cents for as I have been collecting since 1965 and really dug my heels into it in 1981.
Becket turned me off when he started his monthly price guide and he started a NEW YORK player premium and some of the bigger dealers were not surveyed about prices. It was like he was making them up. There use to be Superstar ,Star and commons Then Semi-Star came about . For years we had the best grade of EX+ as highest but in the 1980's when coin shop got involved we got the MINT then lo and behold GEM MINT.
Then at one Philly Show the PA Dept of Revunue showed up and said you owe us sale tax money, BUT as a seller you must have a license to collect it, and that cost money too. A dealer lost his inventory of conterfiet Rose Rookies because even though the had them labeld as such, it was illeagel to sell them in PA. It protected TOPPS name and buyers.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Recently I sent a few of my Favorite set 1954-55 Topps Red Wings to GWY11 and he sent me a great collection of Vintage Tigers, way more than I ever expected and wanted to thank him so much for doing something that isn't required as he is always one of the guys here that goes beyond your normal trade to help out fellow collectors. There is a few members here I really enjoy trading with or just sending out cards and expecting nothing in return. Thanks so much of making things better on this site

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Tgrs_4_me for refusing a recent trade. See...she insisted on giving me the cards.
Very much appreciated Becky.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

A belated thanks to Hittinaway, dicefoot, and bkim for PIFfing me upon my recent return home. It's been hectic since returning with holiday celebrations and planning to leave again that I may have forgotten to thank someone inadvertently. My apologies for that.
