Well it is finaly over. After 65 yrs off an on in the hobby and at 76 yrs old I decided it was time to give it up. I took my baseball, hockey and football from the 50's & 60's packed it up and turned it over to my 15 yr old grandson for his education and everything else that was left over sold it today for $5000.00. If your curious as to what I sold off you can see it on the site. The one thing I will miss is the team sets from topps on the Pirates, Blue Jays, Steelers and Penguins along with my Roberto Luongo and Larry Walker collection as a lot of it I hadn't finished entering it into the data base.
Now the only thing left to do is pass over my stamp collection to my granddaughter and see what I'm going to do with the comic books that I have.
Tom

Sorry to see you go. I'm glad we got to chat a bit, and get you up and running on your scans.
I wish you nothing but the best.

I should do the same for my grandkids, There isn't any gold other than fools gold when it comes to cardboard gold. All I've found on here is a sad stalker. You made a wise decision my friend!

You have to remember he did pass alot down to his grandson, so we may have lost one but thankfully the hobby gains another. When my time comes (that is still 31 years away) I certainly hope my son and/or grandson(?) wants to take the reins, if not I will sell it and blow it on a skydiving trip LOL. Enjoy your days newfie and find something else to make you smile. =)

Best of luck to you Tom. I've been collecting for 50 years now and have wondered from time to time when I should should call it quits. I'm lucky in one way because my son, 28, shares my love of the cardboard collecting. ( My Fathers Day present was a 1951 Bowman Warren Spahn.) I figure as long as I'm still working, I can spend some of my paycheck on something that I enjoy. I hope you find another hobby soon. In the meantime, enjoy those grandkids.

It sounds like you enjoyed yourself with the hobby. Best of luck in your "retirement"

Always sad to see someone leave the hobby and wish you the best. Hopefully this is something your grandson really gets into and it is something you can continue to share.

I hate to see anyone leave the hobby, but passing some of the collection down is the best way to hopefully inspire at least one new collector. Using more of the collection to bring up some funds helps even more. I hope you let him know that some of the collection brought in that much money.
I've been collecting for just over 30 years and I still absolutely love the hobby and the other collectors I get to connect with in this digital age. I don't love the direction the card manufacturers have gone for the past decade, but I keep evolving as the hobby does and find new and/or different ways to enjoy the hobby. I've said since I was about 12 years old that my collection is my "retirement fund". I stick to that philosophy, but the main goal is to acquire things for my personal collections in any sport or non-sport category. I also LOVE to help fellow collectors! I will happily trade a PC item to help someone reach a goal for a set or something similar as long as I get a similar item in return. My best example is the fact that I have traded FIVE of my Jimmie Johnson NASCAR Autograph cards in the past year and a half to help other collectors complete (or get closer to) their goal of a complete set. One of those trades didn't even get me a return JJ AU and one of those cost me my only Jeff Gordon AU (that was also AU'd by JJ). I truly respect the set collectors that devote themselves to something that is extremely hard to complete and I am willing to lose part of my collection to help them complete that. I know that one day in the future will make me need to clear out the cards. As long as I get to enjoy them while they are in my possession, it was worth owning them!
