A new card shop opened up down the street from me pretty recently in northeast Phoenix. Was pretty happy because most card shops I know of are either way out on the westside or down south in Tempe. I had been a couple times but this weekend was the first time I bought cards. Got a hobby box of 2016 Topps Bunt for 20 bucks and completed the whole set.  Pretty cool as this was the 1st baseball set I have completed.

Also picked up a card of Will Ferrell in a Dbacks uniform. Owner of the shop even took off a few bucks for me. I don't know how many people here are in the Metro Phoenix area, but I'd suggest checking out Nick's Sports Market on 32nd st and Thunderbird. 

I wish I knew a little earlier. I've been in North Scottsdale for the last three weeks visiting my mom (N 142nd Place). I hit a lot of stores in the Phoenix area while here but didn't know about that one and I fly back to Canada on Wednesday. Maybe I'll be able to get out tomorrow and see if they are open. If not, I'll have to make a note of it for when I come back at Christmas.

Cool pick-up sahal! Will Ferrell is a big-time baseball fan. Did you see his show about baseball that first aired about a year ago? I can't remember the name of the program now, but I know I posted about it on Beckett. It was a really cool show and I had to let other fans know about it. Ferrell is a great comedic actor and I wish more sports fans knew about his love of baseball (and other sports)! Unfortunately, I am nowhere near AZ, although there are at least 2 great spots I'd love to visit in the state (Kitt Peak Observatory and the Grand Canyon). I think that Lowell Observatory is also in AZ. Astronomy and Meteorology are my next 2 hobbies after sports and sports-cards. Weather certainly affects both of my main hobbies!

I'll have to check out the new store. I mostly go to Showtime but there are so many Pokemon/YuGiOh and other card game players there. 

Spazmatastic, Lowell Observatory is up in Flagstaff. It's a great place to go, I've been there only once and had a blast. Got to see several planets through the giant telescopes. If you do eventually go to the Observatory, I'd recommend staying until closing time.

I was pretty sure Lowell Observatory was near Flagstaff and I'd love to visit the site. Kitt Peak Observatory is tops on my list in AZ astronomy sites though. If I get to AZ for a vacation, I'm hoping for a week or so and that it will be situated near the springtime NASCAR races in Phoenix. I know exactly where the track is in relation to the cities and observatories. A week-long visit wouldn't let me get to the Canyon from down there though. I wouldn't want to rush through the southern observatories to speed northwest to the Canyon. When I was a kid, the Grand Canyon was at the top of my list for natural features to see in my lifetime. It has slowly worked its way down the list over the past 30 years. That doesn't mean it will never happen though. I had wanted to see a St. Louis Cardinals MLB game in St. Louis since I was a little kid too and I finally made it there in 2013! Arizona has always been my 2nd destination. I've made it to many locations that I never thought I'd get to in my life and they were ALL about timing and a little bit of luck.

It's funny (to me) that YOU responded to my reply. I actually applied to ASU and would have become a Sun Devil, if I could have afforded the trip and housing AND/OR gotten a scholarship to go there. Apparently, I was a bit before my time though. I applied for a Graphic Design scholarship. That was nearly non-existant in the mid-90's, at least for a scholarship. I couldn't even get one for my local Community College either. I had to ditch that idea and never went to college anywhere. I did do some correspondence classes with the National Radio Institute in Sound-Engineering for 2 years before McGraw bought the company and closed it less than a year later. That was a big waste of money for absolutely no return.

Since then, I have continued to educate myself in any way available for the things that I enjoy and for the things that excite me.

EDIT: If my PB Account still worked, I'd show you my ASU sweatshirt. I still don't know exactly why you'd need a sweatshirt in AZ (I really do know), but I have one that I cut the sleeves off of to work here in the humid southeast (or mid-Atlantic) states. It really is a sweatshirt, but I cut the sleeves off (think of Larry the Cable Guy). I cut those sleeves off WAY before anyone knew who Larry the Cable Guy was in any part of the world. It really seems like I should have been a stand-up comic. The problem was that I hate getting in front of a crowd. BUT, the first shirt that I remember cutting the sleeves off of was a Kurt Cobain Death Certificate t-shirt.

And funnily enough astronomy and weather are my other areas of interest also. I'll take it a little further. When I left HS I actually went to UMass-Amherest for awhile as an astronomy major. Funny thing happens when physics and you don't quite mix.... AZ and CA were on my wish lists for college, but money talks. Joined the Marines instead, but always maintained my interest and follow. 

Back in the late 90's I was doing a training exercise on the big island and we got a day off. The training area was about halfway up Mauna Kea. The plan was for a few of us to take the trail up and I was gonna see the Keck Observatory. Instead, the day prior someone decided to hike up without sunglare protection so we had to cancel :(. 

Seeing that I spent time in Okinawa Japan (typhoon alley!!), coastal NC and, until recently, Tampa weather has held my interest for awahile. Never mind the time I spend in San Diego (a few earthquake experiences...), the desert, mountains, etc I took an interest in how waether pattern work.

Always nice to hear of a new shop opening up, rather than a local shop closing. And the fact that you got some good deals is awesome. Hopefully the shop does well and is around a long time to come.
