Who needs software when you have TCD?
I guess it depends on what you want the software to do? If it is to keep track of all of your cards, I would suggest that this is better than any software you can buy. First off, it's free. You don't have to worry about adding new sets to your database, because someone else will do it for you (also for free).
I haven't used it before, but Kronocard seems interesting (and its free too). www.kronocard.com/

I was using a couple different database tools (I forget the original database I was using in the mid-90s, but I switched everything over to MS Access in the early 2000s) for keeping track, but it was tedious to add new sets (and it was only a player collection db). At least with the way this site handles things, I don't have to be the one adding the new checklists (but I can be, and sometimes am).
I can't imagine an offline software application being easier or more user-friendly than what we have here.
Additionally, after you take some time to look around and get a good feel foe the site, if you see areas that could be improved, the Admin(s) here are very receptive to listening to ideas and making changes and enhancements all the time. (For example, if you come across a sports card here that has no team listed for it yet, the drop down on the card's page was my first enhancement suggestion that was implemented about 4 years ago. Prior to that, clicking on "update team" - or whatever it was called - would send you to another page - taking quite a bit of time if you were updating an entire set like that.) Can't imagine that flexibility in an offline tool.

This site is the best “software” I’ve ever used. Plus I feel pretty confident this will be around longer than the Beckett and Card Collector software I used before.

I looked at some software and it looked like something from windows 3.1 or something. This site does everything I need. Definitely the way to go for me!

I used Card Collector before Beckett killed it and I found this site..... I still use it because a good portion of my cards I haven’t finished transferring here, and I consider it my backup along with my excel checklist just in case worst case scenario ever happened...

I use TCDB almost exclusively, can't beat it. I do have some lists still using MS Office. Just recently I tried Kronocard by Kronozio. Still haven't had the chance to really dig in.
TCDB is my #1 go to.

I started using the Card Collector back in 1990. But found it missing so many sets and when I asked the comapnay if they could add some they told me that since I was not a monthly subscriber then my request was not a prioirty as it was for the monthly subscribers. WTF
Still have the original manual for that came with the software.
Tried other software and some upstarts who were looking for a beta testers. I did some beta testing and then they were gone when i suggested things after asking for to much. Tried Beckett and was a user for many years but then they started charging to keep a collection.
Tried Zistle and they are gone also.
Have tried many but always came back to this DB. Can not beat it. Very responsive to question, feels like a small town collectors club from around the word.
Search around, add some cards, scans. Ask questions and have fun

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

It IS a great site...but it's also a site so there are cons to that. (Like needing an Internet connection or them suddenly disappearing after a lawsuit, etc.) Collectorz.com is so great for movies, comics, book, etc. but have yet to make one for trading cards. I toy with using their comic collecting software because comics and trading cards as so different (title with issues vs a set with numbers) but one of the big draws with them is you don't have to add everything manually, whereas with trading cards I mostly would. We need to find some software nerds and get a kickstarter campaign going.

<raises hand> <--------- Certified nerd here.
Prefer the term geek, but I digress. I am a software tester.
