I never thought about kids serving any useful purpose. Maybe I should get one myself. I don't think I've ever spent more than $10 on a card!

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I thought I'd found some 1887 Buchner Gold Coin cards for about $50 earlier this week, but can't locate them anymore. That's what I based my sights on these Sunday cards on. I've found some at about $100 and up.
I'm not giving up, yet, but I may have to keep scouring the net for possible subs for Sunday.
Stupid question, but those that own such cards, what part of the country do you live in, and where'd you acquire yours? I'm wondering if they're more likely to be found in certain parts of the country than in Texas.

My kids get me a 1951 Bowman for Father's Day every year. This year it was a really nice Warren Spahn. If I live another 319 years I'll have a complete set.

Now that's an idea! And, with Sunday only having a few cards I won't have to wait as long as you!

This discussion has me considering buying a vintage tobacco baseball card. Just a common, in a lower condition. Not to hijack this thread, but would a low price T206 common on COMC be a safe bet as authentic? If someone is gonna counterfeit a card, would a guy like Steamer Flanagan be worth their time? I have my eyes on an Al Shaw actually. He's buried in nearby Rardin, IL.
i thought it made more sense to ask here rather than start a new topic. My apologies if I'm off topic, Commish.

This is quite a humorous thread guys. I don't have any info to help really, but I had to say this...
My oldest card is a 1910 T206 Bill Lattimore and it didn't cost me anything. I got REALLY lucky though! A collector of the 1909-1911 T206 set had a contest on Beckett several years ago. The prize was a random T206 duplicate. I won and that was the card he sent me. It was the first card I have ever WON (not counting auctions). Even though I don't collect him or his team, I'm still keeping it. It's the oldest card I have by 40+ years. The only way I'd get rid of it would be for a similar Cardinals card.
For those that are curious, I know it's a 1910 b/c I looked up what cards were released in which years from 1909-1911. I found an extensive list that placed Lattimore in late 1910. After that, my next oldest card is a 1952 Topps card in my Cardinals collection.

I wish I could answer you with confidence. When I finally bought a tobacco card a few years ago, it never occurred to me that there could be fakes out there. Somewhere along the line, I just stopped trusting that older cards were real unless they were graded. I mean, would it be worth it to forge a Steamer Flanagan or Al Shaw? I dunno. I know there was a guy who tried to make his fortune counterfeiting nickels, which I just love, but show you that people will try anything.
Regardless, I hope you snag T206 or any tobacco card. They're soooo cool.
