Just wondering if people out there have a favorite set of cards and why. For me, I've really grown fond of the '14 Topps Heritage baseball set. The cards look great with that 1965 formatting and have that nostalgic feel to them. Plus, at 500 cards the set isn't too small or too big. It's just right. My only complaint is the fact there are 75 SP cards I'll have to find a way to scrounge up to complete my set. Even that's not all bad though because if a set is too easy to put together it has less value to me. The things that take the most work to assemble are those we cherish the most. |

1976 SSPC. Clean look. It challenged Topps. Had players that weren't in some Topps sets. Keith Olbermann doesn't knock it too far for me.

Tough call but I
like the 1998 SPX
Finite MLB set. I
love the fact that
they are all
numbered. Also like
the 2007-08 UD
Masterpieces sets
along with the
multi colored
parallels. The
color parallels
brought out the
main image to me.

I've thought about
this quite a bit-
my first List here
on the Database was
my top 10 favorite
NASCAR card sets.
But I've been
unable to narrow
down my list of top
10 NBA sets.
Picking a single
favorite is too
tough.
I have been able to
narrow down my
favorite years for
both my sports. For
the NBA, it's 1996-
97. For NASCAR it's
1994. Totally
coincidentally,
both years are my
second year
collecting the
cards.

Tough call. I think my favorite set of sets I've actually completed is still the 1975 Topps baseball card set. It's colorful, chock full of great players, and took me years to complete. That's just ahead of the 72s.
But of all sets, sheesh, I don't know. Looking at the sets I at least have one card of, maybe the 1955 Topps baseball. I like the design a little more than 56 and love the players. But the T205 Gold Borders are right there for me, too, edging out the T206s (of which I have none) because T205 has stats on the back and are over 100 years old.
Heck, I love a lot of sets. So, despite all this writing, I can't really answer.

ps: See, by my reasoning, it's really hard to think the 2014 Topps Heritsge set is #1. If it's cool because of its 1965 design, then the actual 1965 set is better, because it's 49 years old and has actual hall of famers. But each to his own. ;-)

And I might agree with you if I could afford to put a set of original 1965 cards together. To me though '14 Topps Heritage strikes the right balance of traditional design combined with modern aspects, such as insert sets, relics, autographs, etc. Back in '65 that wasn't the case. |
