I'm going to sound like a grouchy, grumpy old man, but boy, is it tiresome reading the same comments from the same people about cards that were produced 10, 20, 30 years ago.  What's done is done.

I would LOVE to read content involving the history of actual set or a memory of the person/thing depicted. 

I get it- we are all fond of the stuff we collected back in the day.  To many, vintage is always better.  

We also all know that investors bought a bunch of cards in the 80s and 90s that have become worthless (notice I'm not blaming the card companies for giving the people what they wanted.)  

The comment section goes on and on- a new user who stumbles upon this site will not get to see some of the other features of the site because user X wants to complain that a 1994 card doesn't have a logo on it.

I'm all about everyone participating, but quantity does not mean quality.

If I do comment on a RCOTD, I usually try to be positive, I'm sure there were times when I wasn't.  I usually only comment if that card had some kinda impact on me while collecting.  Another thing that would get me to comment is if it is a card that I really liked and do not have in my collection.

That's a fair opinion, but I actually disagree. I just reread all the comments on today's card and nothing there bothers me in the least. Some like it, some don't. The comments are all reasonable and just express different views. I've come to learn what people like and don't like in cards by reading these comments, which is mildly interesting. And some are very funny, which I always appreciate. I don't always read the comments, and I only comment on about two cards a month, usually with something purportedly witty.

I'm actually more put off by the seemingly new trend of threads calling out and criticizing other members. Unless there's something downright offensive, who cares what people post? Ignore it, respond to it, whatever. But why do we have to have public discussions about the quality of the posts or the people, rather than about the topics themselves? If someone has issues with another member, I guess I just wish those could be handled by private message.

I know everyone is just trying to make the site as enjoyable as possible for everyone, and few have contributed as much as you have. And this very post of mine is a bit of a Catch-22, hypocritical situation. But it seems to me that, rather than knock the posts that are tiresome, just post better stuff yourself.

Not trying to start a fight. Just offering my own views, admittedly affected by another active and frustrating thread that's going at the moment.

Every is free to have his own opinion/comment.   That's what it's for.   You cannot and should not try to control the content.    It's supposed to fun section and for most it is.   Some of the comments are pretty hilarious.  And if a new user wants to see other parts of the site, he/she is free to push a couple buttons and look, not be spoonfed what someone deems worthy of them reading.

I’ve probably only commented on a handful of the cards over the past two years and typically just scroll down to the forums. I’d be interested in seeing some information on the card as it pertains to our site and maybe less comments. Might be interesting to see who listed this card first in their collection, who provided the scan, and what members have recently added it to their for sale/trade lists. Maybe it’s time to just refresh it and make it more pertinent to what we all use the site for.

Dave, I agree with you. We supposedly love cards, yet we can't get a single day without multiple complaints, usually the same complaint on every card. 

I admit that I have contributed to this, and sometimes cringe at what i wrote, let alone the usual complaining. I must try to do better, and i will make a concious effort to do so. I know, at some point, I will probably fail and complain again, but I am going to try. 

I should have expanded on my comment today...I said "sepia does not really need to be a thing" but I neglected to explain it's because I have trouble telling sepia apart from regular. 

Occasionally somebody complains about there being only one year of stats on a one-year player.  That makes me laugh.

And THAT made me laugh!

I usually try to be positive as well, but often I am not. My comments are usually my first reactions to the card, or the set the card is from. I also tend to mention whatever trend de-jour the card uses that I am sick of, or that I happen to like. Sorry if I sound like a broken record... (kids under 30 Google records, LPs, 45s, vinyl).

I also like reading the comments to see what others think, and also to note those Saturdays or other days when I missed visiting the site. Since the lag time is approx a week from when the card appears for comments to when it is actually posted as the RCotD sometimes even I find my comments strange. When I first joined the site I think I noticed the card of the day but at that time there were no comments. I forget when I first noticed the comments for the RCotD. It then took a couple of days to find out how to comment.

Once out of curiosity I went through the archives of the RCotD to see things like when the first Non-Sport card was listed and what it was, When the first card of each sport was listed. etc... I have no problem with the RCOTD comments.  Who cares if people complain about cards? The great thing about the RCOTD is that it's a nice one-off platform.  I disagree that new members aren't going to find features of the site because they are bogged down in the comments. Besides, if you're getting tired of seeing the same types of comments, you are always welcome to contribute your own! Rather than waiting for someone else to do it, start the trend yourself.
